2018 anniversary trip 200 / 100 max miles per day for 22 days

Go to Spain and don’t waste your time or money in France.

Such an ignorant country.

Oh dear, Bev might have been right to be worried, think I might be slightly myself now o_O

Cite de Europe for a couple of nights might suddenly look attractive :)

Get
I am going to have a look at Bay of Roses just to see what you are on about :)(y)
Get looking for a cancellation on the Santander/Bilbao ferry (pet friendly cabin) like we did and head to sunny Spain (y)

Go to L'escala rather than Roses David.

#trustme

we have very happy memories of a go kart track there (L'escala) in the very early 80's, before we used to drink so much we spent far too much there one week away, I suspect it might have changed a little since then :)

David I see your thinking of St Tropez I can recommend a private Aire about 20min walk from the center and a few hundred yards from the beach.

but we have already paid for a chunnel crossing, we are not made of money o_O

anyway as far as my research suggests neither are going to be warm, but France is looking sunnier and no colder than Spain :)

........we've also paid for a tunnel crossing, but we've now deferred it, so will use it later in the year :)

We are also planning a trip to France David, perhaps we can meet up with you and Bev in a ski resort ? :).

We will have gin and orange marmalade with us......

Love the idea of a meet up, really love the idea of the marmalade, not sure I will get Bev anywhere near a ski resort in the MH o_O

although I did suggest we might drive up to Chamonix on our way down, she didn't scream at me, so might be on still, the roads to there are main routes through to Mont Blanc tunnel and the aire is right next to the main road and town

we went to Chamonix with family skiing about 10 years ago in February, we had an awesome chalet with view of Mont Blanc and an outside hot tub, we picked the only 10 days in winter history where they didn't even have one flake of snow, it was not even that cold o_O

David this link should take you to the Aire, it cost €16 a night including water and hook up and 50cents if you want to use the showers. Some folk might think it's expensive for an Aire all you need to do is look at the price of a local site.
If you have the bikes with you it's an easy cycle in which we did a couple of times and then walked in at night for dinner, you can also walk in along a costal path possible take about 40mins but a lovely walk. Not sure what the weather will be like in Feb but if you turn left out the gate and walk/cycle for roughly a mile you come across a stunning beach.

Anyone give us advice on the current weather conditions for the west coast of France?, I.e from Calais to Bayonne, after that we don’t know whether to head for the Algarve or Benidorm/Del sol areas depends on weather really. Many thanks.

The Aire in Honfleur is a bit tatty round the edges, but the town itself is a picture postcard pretty little port.

The West coast route will usually be warmer, but wetter, than the East. The Rhone/Saone valley can be bitterly cold wind, and the A75 over the Massif Central can have snow.

Edit: If you get to Honfleur early enough you can usually bag an EHU. Included in the price.

Lovely stop here David, you can even do a few geocaches that Bev would love , no hills or country trails, but around the town ....

You know you want to really lol

all coming together well now, Bev is really relaxed about the three weeks away, unlike her, hopefully we have now mastered this MHing malarkey :)(y)

but she is really worried about the weather forecast for Tuesday, hints of snow and or ice o_O I haven't dared tell her it looks a lot colder I France next week, although hopefully dry :)

Not even picked night one as yet, but are crossing around 18:00 on Tuesday and already now decided based on weather to go down the east side of France to the med at St Tropez then along the med coast towards Spain, possibly through Spain then back to France at Biarittz then north home, but all very fluid, as said not even picked night one, but think 50 odd miles more or less due east of Calais somewhere (y)

Easy peasy David, park up at CiteEurope,... stock up with necessities there , buy that special Anniversary gift for Bev and then dine in one of the many restaurants there or nr by, rested for a good journey the next day .....sorted....
David don't forget the clock goes on an hour so all being well arriving at 7.35 pm

Kath
Ps enjoy most of all

If you are arriving after dark Cite Europe is a 'no brainer'.
Just round the corner from the tunnel, park up and relax.
I know it's not the prettiest place in France but it is very practical.
Next morning you are straight out onto the motorway and heading south.
Have a good trip @DavidG58.

Richard.

I think based on weather and convenience for this trip it will probably be cite de Europe, but we are heading east from there so may still look in that direction to get us away from Calais

we have driven through and stopped there for coffee twice but as yet not overnighted

We stopped a the aire at Calais on our way home last summer. It is a bit bland but secure hardstanding and very convenient.

On the way there we stopped at the aire at Graveline which is only 20/30 mins drive along the coast from Calais and much prettier with riverside views and a lovely walk for fresh croissants in the morning.

Getting exciting for you both and hope you’ve remembered to pack everything.

Looking forward to following your travels.

Stay safe and please keep us posted(y)

Hope that you both have a great trip and that the weather is kind to you

Safe journey tomorrow Bev n David. Don’t forget plenty pictures .
Enjoy......

here is the latest approx. route we have added an additional challenge

upload_2018-2-5_19-52-29.png

this works out to 2100 miles over the 21 days, so an average of 100 miles / day which is nice distance, although we plan to do slightly above this in the early and possible latter days, all weather related

the added twist is, in 21 days we will cover 2100 miles and are taking 2100 € seeing if we can live on €100 / day, which is for everything we buy over there :)(y)

taking a few bottles of English beer, 2 litres of gin (there might just be a couple more in already ) Schweppes tonic which we just cant find in France and some bacon

everything else will be bought for cash, all fuel, we will cross the channel full and return empty (work can pay the UK bit :)) then food and paid for aires

this time tomorrow we hope to be in France on first glass of something, snow forecast is still ominous for northern France, but it will be what it will be :)

daily updates hopefully to follow (y)

Have a fabulous trip. I'll look forward to the updates
