2003 Hymer B584 tyre size and wheel size?

OK, thanks - No faffing around buying new wheels which is one less thing to worry about! Subject to weighing I believe 3850kg will be sufficient for us. Do you know what am I looking for on the van at to identify the MH as having a 'light' chassis?

From what I see in the thread there’s no indication of which type of chassis it may be, ALKO or FIAT Camper. On our ALKO the chassis plate identification says AMC35L which means 3500kg Light. You will need to see all the plates on it, under the bonnet, on the side near the door, on the chassis and the rear axle.

That's really helpful - with this and other info gleaned from here I feel in a better place to view it with more confidence that I know what I'm looking at!!

No it's not. Thanks for read my posts! I have just found out that my potential purchase has 15 inch wheels. I won't be able to see that VIN plate until tomorrow but I do know from speaking to the seller that a couple of the tyres are 'age cracked' so I am budgeting to replace them should I buy the van.

I would probably consider changing them all. With this in mind is it an expensive option, and indeed its it a good idea, to try and source bigger 16 inch wheels which would give me the option once the wheels have new tyres fitted, of uplating the MH via a paper application?

It really depends on the chassis as to how much you can up-plate it, some may only be able to go to 3650, whereas some can go to 3850 with or without modifications. However if you also want to increase the rear axle capacity uprating on it's own to 3850 won't usually work and you'll likely have to put on a rear semi-air suspension too, regardless any change to the weight will require an engineer to confirm, you can't simply do it yourself.

There is a ALKO sticker on the slam panel under the bonnet the that reads
3.500
5.200
1.750
2.000

the same details are repeated on the body by the habitation door.

it has a double floor with the tanks ‘sandwiched’ between the inner floors I think. At rear there is what looks like a bolt on black chassis that extends back from the main van body with a cross brace of same material running width ways. I guess this is where a tow bar would be fitted?

What would be my options weight wise with this van do you think?

Those figures in order are max weight, train weight, front axle and rear axle.
There should be Type info at the bottom like this for the chassis.
If it’s on AL-KO then air assist and bigger tyres should allow you to go to 3850kg. Though you may even be able to do it without, some are paper exercise but it still depends on what type of chassis you have.

I would think the 35 in the code refers to 3500kg but you would need to check with SVTech or whoever you choose. SV Tech have a form to fill in and they require info like this as well as current tyre size/load rating, rim size, rear axle capacity etc, a photo of all the plates and the V5. They don’t charge for the advice, only if you go ahead with the weight change.
I would guess you would be OK to 3850kg but again check with SV Tech.

Related but from a different angle - the rear bolt on section of al ko chassis is quite rusty with surface corrosion but not holed. It’s a 2003 model. Is this a major concern or can it be wire brushed and treated and if so how should I go about it? Thanks
