Hi All - I'm planning on buying my first motorhome. It will only be for 2 people so was wondering what the pros and cons are of coach built over a campervan. It will need a toilet and shower. Thanks.
Well, it really depends how much luxury you want. We have a 7.5 metre Burstner Lyseo. They come in 4/5 berth but we just have a 2 berth version.
Rear single beds (can be one king size) over a large garage that we can keep the motorbike or electric bikes in. Separate shower and toilet room. Lounge area, large fridge.
For us permanent bedroom was a must, couldn't be doing with making up beds, also being able to get out to the toilet without disturbing my wife (or vice versa).
The bigger width of a coach built over a pvc actually has quite an impact on inside size.
I prefer the look of a van but for me the usability of a coachbuilt wins for me. I alway think vans feel dark and cramped.
Hi Mark, we've just gone thru this very decision for our first motorhome purchase. Looked at all the pros and cons of both (I really wanted a van conversion if truth be known) but when we totted up what mattered, we ended up with a narrow bodied coach built with fixed twin rear beds and garage underneath. We had to compromise on lots of stuff, we couldn't go above c 6.6m long, overhangs were important due to a steep section of driveway etc etc. The Chausson we got (s697) is c 2.1m wide so a little wider than a van but much narrower than a full sized moho. We haven't done our first trip yet so can't comment on whether we've made the right choice or whether there'll be an 'Oh S###' moment....really hope the former!
Lots to choose from and lots more chance of getting it wrong.
After many MHs I needed to shrink the van so eventually bought a Nuevo EK, excellent MH with all the boys' toys and under 6M, mine is the two berths.
Any questions fire away, there's a lot of Knowledge on this site.
Coachbuilt
Pros: More spacious, usually bigger beds and options for separate rooms (bedroom)
Cons: More susceptible to damp, harder to park (but not impossible) in towns/cities, etc, more rattles
PVC's
Pro's: Opposite to all cons of a coachbuilt
Cons: Opposite to all pros of a coachbuilt
May be hire and see which suits your needs the best as everyone's opinion and needs differ
2 birth ok plenty to choose from but are you sure you want a 2 birth? We wanted a 2 birth but 3 seatbelts, now that changes things dramaticaly. We were looked as if we were fools, at least thats the way we aere treated. Do something daft like add in a prefference for less than 6m. We had to go 4 birth with the rest of requirements. 5 years ago it was a almost impossible dream, now maybe more possible.
