12v TVs. Have you bought, upgraded, ditched, or changed to tablet?

Pablotti I see you have paired your Firestick remote to the Avtex tv? Could you tell me how please, as Avtex is not listed on the Firestick. Did you use another tv? Thanks!

You're absolutely right, it's not in the list. I don't remember exactly what I selected, but there's an option in the list that sounds similar... Like Avatex or Avatech or something... I selected one of those to try it, and it worked. My assumption is that the name Avtex has been entered incorrectly.

Thanks! I’ll give it a go!

(Yes, I know there are violently opposing camps on watching TV in vans, so let's save time by just not posting your personal views on 'to watch' or 'not to watch'. Thanks!)
Today on my journey home I stopped off to buy a TV for my van. When I've had a long and busy day away with the van like yesterday for example, I like a bit of TV as I settle for the night. My iPad is too old to upgrade the streaming apps now, and I'm too old to enjoy watching films on iPhone screens.
But I couldn't bring myself to spend the money. Lots of 12v TVs seem very behind in terms of the tech they have, and although I know you can add Fire Sticks etc, my question is why would you buy a TV that requires this when fully smart ones are available and have been for years?
I'm noticing lots of Avtexs, Cellos etc on FB Marketplace, so presumably their owners have either decided to go the tablet route, or have upgraded, or given up!
I'm interested to know if previous TV owing Funsters have ditched their TV in favour of a tablet, or if they've recently bought a TV, and what were the deciding factors.
(And yes, I have also searched this topic, and read quite a lot of comments on a number of threads. That should preempt a few other questions! 😉)
Ta!

FireStick is better than a built in smart feature. TVs last much longer than their smart features, which are typically unsupported two years to get you to buy a new one. However, the TV itself might actually last 10 years. Better to have a FireStick (or similar), which is faster, more frequently updated and easily replaced if support is lost.

Would not out of choice buy a smart TV, would rather a basic TV panel and plug in a firestick or small TV box. Means I can upgrade the devices without replacing the screen, which needs to be the right size and fitted. Devices are stuck to the back of our TV panel, 😁

Only drawback is the number of remotes🤔

My smallest TV at home is a basic TV with a Firestick attached. All the Firestick features except Alexa (which I never use as I can't stand it) work perfectly from the TV's remote (Samsung), so the Firestick remote lives in a drawer and is hardly ever touched.

Another vote for the LG.
I have the 24TN520S smart TV.
It runs on 19V and I power it from a 12v to 19v plugin transformer:

One came with the van via last owner it come with us on our 1st weekend away. Been in the spare room every since never used it and don't miss having one when away in the van. We are all Apple home too , We bought an almost new iPad mini off ebay for a great price for the van so can always use that if we ever felt like it.

With New ones on the way at some point in a few months will be plenty of newer ones going on sale. Maybe worth a look out and see what you can find. Or if you know anyone with a blue light card or student one you can get a nice little discount off a new one or fully refurbished one via Apple site. If not maybe worth looking what's on the refurb site can often get a good deal on stuff.

We rarely watch TV when away in the Van, I do, download films from iPlayer to my 12” iPad just in case.

Avtex HDTV for us, with their dedicated soundbar that hangs off the bottom. Plus Firestick which we occasionally use. Sound and picture quality great including off angle viewing. Downsides are soundbar doesn't always sync via ARC and the purchase cost, but a quality item. Cello was awful with woeful sound and picture don't waste your time.
