Well I have decided against the Viesa and have gone for the Bergstrom OpenAir which is the latest invention it seems. Runs on 12V and has some very good reviews out there. €1.850 fitted - only €100 more than the Viesa and it is a proper air conditioner.
At least its a proper condensing Air con unit rather than a "swamp" cooler evaporative, so should work better`

This is what I am expecting, the reviews out there are promising. I will post my thoughts once I have the van and tested it. Should be soon - in time for the summer heat waves......

Ok, as you all know we finally picked up the van and are now travelling around the islands before going up through Europe. Today we have 31C outside, so a perfect opportunity to test the Bergstrom air conditioner. I just switched it on, have all the windows and doors closed and am waiting to see how it does.

I strongly suspect that this is an evaporating air cooler and not an "airconditioner" with a compressor (and refridgerant)...

Couldn't find the power consumption on the Web page I looked at.

I do so hope it cools you satisfactorily.

It says it has a compressor and runs at up to 2kw. It sounds like a proper heat exchanger AC to me.

No JJ, it's a fully fledged air conditioner with compressor and refrigerant. Runs on 12V and works great, in one hour I had the temperature down to 26C while being 31C outside. I'm happy with that.

Ok, sorry for the wait, it works very well. Dropped the temperature from 31 to 26 in one hour and all on 12V. Battery consumption was minimal as the solar panel (235W) kept everything under control. At the end, when I switched it off, I still had 82% battery power (2x 95ah). So I am very happy with the purchase and can recommend this kit to anyone.

Today we are at 32C outside so I switched on the air conditioning again. In one hour the temperature inside the van has dropped to 25C and battery power is at 87%. The sun is blazing out there so am expecting a full battery recover before the sun sets. Happy days 😁

one more solar panel maybe and you can forget the % of battery on a decent day

thanks for taking the time to test/review it

This one looked interesting too when I was looking at the Bergstrom
2.795 sterling seems an awful lot of money. I paid 1.850 Euros, fitted, for the Bergstrom (I ordered it at the time of buying, so probably no labour charge).

Today we are plugged in for the first time. So no battery worries and after lunch I switched on the air conditioning to auto 16c. It's been on for about 2 hours now and I'm thinking I may have gone over the top. I no longer need to keep the beer in the fridge.....
