Silly question alert, sorry!

Our Peugeot Boxer has a couple of these 10-amp-12-volt sockets (lower left, obviously).

But our new Cello TV has just the regular "cigarette lighter" style plug. You know the type!

Can I buy a plug that will fit this socket? Or an adaptor that will fit it and accept my "cigarette lighter" style plug?

Apologies and thanks!

No, no adaptor
the options are to either change the socket or buy the correct plug ...plugs readily available and easy to fit.
Only 2 wires and the only caution is to get them the correct way round.
Changing one at a time is easiest.
Center wire of cig plug is live.
Largest pin of new plug is live.

You can adaptors on Amazon. They do run warm. Sorry can’t remember the name of the plug type.

Still preferable to change the plug.
They probably run warm because the contact area is crap leading to a resistance.
I certainly wouldn't recommend one

Certainly not recommending. I fitted an alternative and just use the adaptor for a usb plug for low draw items. 👍🏻👍🏻

Yes you can buy a plug, it's called a Clipsal plug, available online or in caravan accessory shops. Note that it is non-reversible, so you have to wire the positive and negative wires correctly.

You can get an adaptor too, as in Jev88's link, or this one:

I don't think you can buy a 12V cigarette-lighter-style socket that has a UK-mains-style mounting plate. You could buy a blanking plate, cut a hole in it, and mount one of these sockets in it. The rectangular plate is removable, there's a big clamping nut holding the socket to the plate.

It's an America mains socket made by Australian company Clipsal who no longer exist, W4 sell an adaptor but better to change the plug they are still avalible.

How about replacing the socket with this (or equivalent)?

If starting with a blank wall that's the best idea. But the existing hole is bigger than the hole required for this new socket. You'd have to fit a plate that covered the hole, and cut a hole in it for the new socket. That's what many people do. I think a standard blanking plate would cover the hole, and you could cut a suitable hole in it for the new socket.

Alternatively you could enlarge the hole sideways, and fit a 'double frame' backing box that would fit two CBE sockets. Maybe one cigarette-lighter socket and one with a couple of USB sockets. The idea is, you fit the frame, then fill it with socket modules of your choice, and clip a trim over it to hide all the screws etc.

Ah, thanks everybody, really grateful for the advice here. I've gone and purchased some plugs to match the socket but can see the benefit of going the other way around, too.

Quite new to this motorhome lark, learning with every trip, and no doubt will soon be back here with more basic questions.

Very glad I signed up the site. It's good to be among friends.
