100amp Lithium.. Now £143..

Even at £152 each, that is still extremely good against SLAs & GELs. 👍
For many, the cost isn't the battery, because we've already passed the point where LFP are cheaper per (usable) Ah than traditional lead acid type batteries. The issue is now whether you need to switch your AC charger, DC charger and solar charger. And the labour to do that.

Which I am also fully aware of thanks, having replaced equipment for that which is suitable for LFP charging. 👍

Research by those looking to go down the LFP route, would immediately highlight that need, which they then need to factor into their project costings........as I did. :) I spent over a year reading up, researching, and asking questions, before we decided to go ahead with it.
Even today, I've had to contact a trusted FUN expert in these matters, as it would appear that Victron firmware updates from a few weeks ago, have somehow caused minor changes to the installed settings back in November, on both solar controllers, as well as the Smart Shunt. :whatthe:
All sorted now though, with the advice not to install any further firmware updates. 👍
It might be an idea to screenshot the current settings for each piece of Victron kit, before installing any firmware updates.........just in case. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I thought Fleabay was for used items, seconds, rejects, etc.
That can be the case, but not always.

I actually bought my 3,000w Renogy inverter through their eBay shop. They were £299 on their web site, reduced to £279, but they had a voucher deal on their eBay shop and I got it for £217.60 with free delivery. Was delivered and was absolutely brand new with full warranty and in the same packaging etc as my 2,000w one bought from their site previously. All fitted and running with no issues at all.

What sellers sometimes do it put up some loss leaders on eBay as it has a huge market audience, and this in turn can lead to brand awareness and loyalty. Many do it sporadically so always worth keeping an eye out.

One thing to make sure of though, is that it is the actual manufacturer's eBay shop and not just a random account selling some knock-off tat.

I believe there is an option to back-up your configuration file for each device. Victron actually recommend that you do this when installing new firmware as some settings can get lost, so you simply reinstall the config file to restore your original settings.

Unfortunately (for customers), it is not always obvious who is selling what, (eg why is this battery so cheap on fleabay, but not on their own website.

My view is that Amazon is very different.
THeres a boat load of dodgey sellers even on Amazon, mostly fronted to pretend to be in one country but really they sell and ship from afar.
Not an issue if seller is upfront about it but sadly a lot are not.

At that price, I would be willing to risk a straight swap.

It isn’t like before when you were risking £600. I know the alternator is a risk without a B2B but it’s fused at 50amps in mine regardless so won’t overload it.

I fitted their 280Ah battery along with Victron EHU charger, Smart Shunt and 50A B2B recently.

I certainly notice the difference in available capacity, it's like I have dragged my older 2009 Kon-Tiki in the modern world. The most we have done is 3 nights "off-grid" and I didn't see it's capacity drop below 50% (and there was no sun for the solar to do much at all) and despite using our Victron 1200 Inverter several times (Mrs CueBall and her hair straighteners plus our E-Bikes).

I wanted to stress the battery, to see what it could really do, so we were watching 12v telly every night, had the radio going, lit up the inside like an Xmas tree etc - I could see it discharging via the smart shunt, but it didn't go below 50%.

Driving home, it was happily sucking up all 50Amps from the B2B (minus a few amps for the fridge).

My biggest concern was that it dipped to -5c outside one night - Their batteries don't have internal heaters and my battery box is underslung with no insulation, so I thought it would shut itself down but it didn't. It just kept going - Although they state it cuts off at -7c and it didn't quite get that cold. It does only say the charging cuts off at -7c, it doesn't mention discharge oddly.

So, I am very happy with it so far...
You want to check all your charging sources and make sure they stop the charge bellow 2 degC, and resume charging when temperature has risen to 4 or even 5 degC.
Charging from alternator at 50A bellow 0 it will damage your battery.

Thanks Ray-Vic. 👍
It's not something I was aware of, but will look further into settings.

Cheers,

Jock. ;)

All done now, and saved as files. 👍

I will stick with my Sterling Power batteries and chargers.

They worked when I got them. And they still work now.
Did you get the lithium ones?
Was tempted when some was for sale on here but theres very few reviews and the well respected seller no longer fits them

Besides, the link lights up as fleabay, not Ecoworthy..
As said ,there shop.

No ,for anything

Having recently bought stacks of stuff from eco worthy the only thing I bought on there site was panels as they were cheapest. Battery was bought on amazon, despatchedfrom them from same place as panels. The Battery monitor/shunt is out of stock on there site yet available on Ebay and amazon.🤷‍♂️

Recently watched an interesting video from Will Prowse.
He was testing a cheap 100ah LIFEPO4 and he made the comment "the over current protection actually works" he was surprised as he said on cheap batteries it rarely works.
He stripped down the battery and it was surprisingly good quality unfortunately I don't think it's a brand avalible in Europe.

eBay can be a fantastic resource IF used wisely,eg. I bought a complete cam belt and water pump kit INA brand from a nationally known and respected seller with the benefit of an eBay discount code for around £100.Going to fit it shortly so just bought a aux belt £10.
I also built my own house starting end of 2019..Many of the materials came via eBay...
Combi boiler, blocks, lintels, roof tiles, insulation and much more even the carpets, all without exception have been as expected and greatly cheaper than the big builders merchants could offer and of course from the same initial suppliers used by said merchants
So. in my opinion and many years experience it would be at least very short sighted to write off such a resource, due to hearsay....BUT do your research...buyer beware

I write it off due to experience.
Your choice, you tried it before deciding.
just maybe one bad apple afterall tens of thousands use it every day and have for years,I have had a couple of problems with sellers and eBay have stepped in and refunded in full without delay the few problems haven't amounted to anywhere near 1%and the thousands of £ I have saved over the years more than compensate for having to send a few emails

Not really - less of that and more a window for bonafide online business nowadays. (And some dodgy ones)
Yes but still great for used in the right circumstances..I bought around 30 classic vehicles and a lot of the stuff to restore them with through eBay.. again a great way of finding unobtainium

Thought about Lithium when our habitation battery died, but would have needed to change so many other bits and was worried about the really cold weather, so didn't bother, Maybe next time.
