0-30 engine oil

0,30 i always thought it was for its low ash properties to save the dpf from clogging

I wouldn't expect the engine to burn so much oil to effect the dpf . Mine uses very little now it's run in

So why do some companies market for diesels,a 0w30 & a 0w30 dpf ?? What is that all about?

sadly the days of buying oil from your employers at next to nothing are gone.

Not much these days runs on straight 20 or 30 or 40 Morriss's oil.

Ahh the good old days of crankshaft regrinds & shells or rebores & pistons/rings.

edit: And the gentle lingering fragrance of SA80 gear oil.

I bought some genuine Mercedes 5w30 low ash for my Merc engined Chrysler 300.
£60 for 20ltrs.....enough for two oil changes.

Whatever happened to good old Duckhams 20/50, I used to put it in every motor I had. :giggle::giggle:

At last, another transmission oil sniffer.

if you are using 5-30 in a euro 6 you are risking killing your dpf filter

It wasn't hard to kill my 2012 euro 5 DPF - it lasted 5 years and I definitely know it wasn't the oil.
a euro 6 is a totally different animal as far as i know a euro 5 dont need 0-30

More or even less difficult?
for a start vans with euro 6 has 2 egr valves and they came out the factory with bad settings and need flashing with the new program because of sooting

I've had this Euro 6 engine for 3 years and 20K miles. I must say its not a patch on the performance of my old Euro 5 engine.
Its early days and do hope it gets better but at the moment I'm very disappointed.
Even the MPG is far poorer.
I cant see the engine oil making an haypeth of difference.

in all honesty i think you are right but what do you do ,you can only be led by the makers its a shame its fiat who are not known for getting it right

I think they have strangled it trying to lower the emissions and making it ingest it's own waste

The internal combustion engine does not want or need an EGR, DPF,NOX Sensor, Stop Start, Adblue or any other apparent environment saving cheat. They are all technological money pits to the motorist and just a sop to give the Green Lobby a warm glow!

Yes, he was trying to point me in the direction of 5-30 till I showed him a screenshot from the owners manual.

The specification bit u have 'cut off' is the crucial element.
When I was searching there were lots of 0 30 but I could only find a few with the actual specification.
Maybe I was looking in the wrong place.
