‘Vehicle’ Owners Clubs? (2 Viewers)

I’m curious, I’ve never been a member of any vehicle related owners clubs. Are any funsters members of any owners clubs and are they of benefit over and above what we learn on MH Fun?

Did your owner's manual not tell you?

We picked up our van the weekend the Pandemic started.
Then due to a family emergency we spent the next 5 weeks living in the van.
We left home in such a hurry that any manual we had were left behind.
We didn't even have a corkscrew initially.
Not that I think the manual would tell you the location of a pump.

All.very very useful for spares and repairs advice on the cars.

We’re in the Carthago Owners Club.
Great for technical advice and the odd picture of some food on a plate as already mentioned
The fb page is part of the COUK.

There is also another fb group but I don’t really bother with that one too much.

Yep I was kicked off because on a tyre thread I stated that camper tyres were not necessary. Van tyres were OK.. but Paul gets a wee backhander from a member on there who sells tyres .

I'd previously got a warning because I told folk the reich water pump was cheaper on ebay than it was with the hymer owners group discount from leisureshop direct

His sidekick ....I think she's called hilary or something is just as bad

I lasted one post "I said Hymers are only a mid range van" , they no liked that.

Hymer International Club is the owners club, normal people on there but we found them a bit old in outlook and their rallies are expensive.
They also complain about the Fun group being noisy at Stratford, they like to go to bed at 10pm when us Funsters are still partying at 1am.

We too are in the Carthago club, don’t know why I’m not even on Facebook which is their main platform

Friends of ours started the Carthago Owners Club, they stepped back from running it a couple of years ago.
They were also involved with the startup of the FB group but there was a few problems and I think now the owners club distance themselves from the FB group.
I'm a member of the FB group but I don't like the way FB works, much happier on here.

I was a member of JEC (Jag) for 1 year paying £50 that included a good mag each month.
Until, on celebration of their dear leaders 10,000 post i said he should get out more. Well the stick i got. I thought don't want nowt to do with you lot of miserable buggers and never renewed.

I think it all depends on what you need out of a club, and what the other member are like.

For example do you need help on the camper conversion, or the base vehicle?

I n our case, we did have a 1981 transit pilote, and got a lot if help from the
mk1 mk2 transit forum regarding the mechanical side.

They have all been good in their own way, and i have received a lot of help over the years.

As far as the camper conversion itself I would think that the most varied experiences and available help are here on this group.

We are members of the Compass Avantgarde Motorhomes facebook group. As our is an older motorhome they are a great source of information and help. No question is deemed silly either.

The Fiat forum is good for info, the Pilote groups either want money first, so no lurking to see what you get or are fb groups which I will not go near.....
MHF has a good balance of info, help, sarcasm and wtf about it....everything I need under one Button...

Never bothered with the official owners clubs but I've always joined the relevant (free) owners groups on Facebook (Bailey, Rapido and now Carthago). I find them less useful for technical issues....most of the appliances are common between the different brands any way so the advice on here tends to be better. But for suggestions of useful mods and brand-specific questions I find them quite useful. The Rapido one was particularly helpful when I couldn't find the Truma dump valve and the manual wasn't at all helpful.

I do find some people are just a bit OTT though....they go on and on how great the brand is, until they change to something different LOL

I think Marque specific owners groups are or a great source of very focused specific information to the brand, I personally prefer the forum style over Facebook pages but FB seems to be the go to medium for a lot of people, I find that technical help/discussion is much easier to access in the forum format.

We're members of both of the facebook Adria Motorhome Owners Group and the Adria Twin Camper Van Owners Group.
There are a lot of "fettling" ideas in the Twin group, we've added a cutlery tray which is above the drawer so both can be used easily and also some cushions the exact size of the back door windows which exactly fit with the blind up - no damage to the blinds but completely cut out the light.

Well is is tre if one takes the range from the cheapest up to Phoenix and the like.

Simple answer is yes. Drew a blank on MHF with malfunctioning rev counter, water temp and fuel gauge - solved in one hit on the Fiat forum. Swift Owners on the other hand . . . .

Lovely group with nice Meets.
Not many La Stradas in the UK so membership includes past owners of the make who now have other motorhomes.

There was an N&B UK Owners Club but it was understandably closed because there was little traffic.

I like to think that maybe that was because there were few faults to discuss.

If you note my avatar I run the Auto Trail F Line Owners Group which is private on Facebook.

Everything is discussed about the marque, warts & all, their strengths, weaknesses, what AT could do better etc. It was set up just under 3 years ago.

First and foremost we are a support group, no question is stupid, no answer is sarcastic. We offer advice on warranty work, accessories mods/hacks etc. We also have member discounts available for such things as extended warranties & fitted accessories such as air con, air suspension, sun canopy's etc.

We hold 5 rally events per year keeping numbers down to around 25 or 30... as the micro craft brewery we take won't stretch further, we can carry around 150 litres! We don't do rally fields, the sites are more than happy to section off a part of their site for our exclusive use.

We usually charge around £110 - £130 for a weekend or 4 days, this will include a fully serviced pitch a small hog roast on the Friday evening an Al Fresco brunch on the Saturday, American style buffet on the Sunday plus the craft ales, wine, gin etc. For the booze everyone is encouraged to slip something into the charity pot. Pets are also welcome and free.

We have our own first aiders, marshals & fire marshals etc. We don't do secretaries, chairpersons or any of that power hungry nonesense nor do we do advertisers etc. We have 5 Admins each with an equal voice.

We have a chosen charity, the RNLI, at our last rally we raised £667.80. We currently have 888 members & are the only other AT group which has permission to reproduce their logo's. The offical ATOC Club has less than 370 members on their Facebook page.

So far this year we've been at Hanworth & Rudding Park & will soon be at Whitemead then Foxtails in Chirk with a NY bash in the lake district.

Currently I'm working on 2025 with the Spring event already sold out.

The only thing we give out are a screen & event sticker plus a lanyard for a name tag.

I am one of four admins for ‘the other, other’ HOG group - the Hillside Owners Group. Much of what you say above relates to our group. At present we have two ‘formal’ meets a year. I’d be very interested in hearing a bit more about how you arrange your meets. I’d like to improve our offering to our group.
I’ve found the group both friendly and helpful. Some members have been able to offer very useful help and information. Some have gone on fabulous trips and told the group about them. Hillside know about the group and some staff members are also group members, but the group isn’t affiliated to them in any way. We post the rough and the smooth, as everyone has blips sometimes.

I was a member of the NOC Norton Owners club and became heavily involved in Commitee work at its hight upto 4 hours a day, its absolutely true the more you put in the more you get out but also true that others will exploit your commitment. Even ouside the commite i wrote the club hand book and other publications. More recently I found Bongo owners organisations and forums very helpful and an outlet for my need to help others. Now in the motor home world I also find forums more friendly helpfull than any of faceache offerings, though i do still offer my brand of help. As to specialist offerings I find it slightly lacking in specific experiance maybe its because of the rarity of my model. For Motorhoming generaly MHFUN has to be the first port of call, and normaly delivers, but for Fiat specfic information it has to be the FiatForum. There there are a number of very knowledgeable people some with very specific model knowledge and generaly friendly/ helpful. the willingness to help others and share data has helped to create a good knowledge base of the twin egr model and resulted in an understanding what the issues are and how to resolve them.

What benefit have i got from owners clubs, just a little bit , new knowledge, how to help others, satisfaction from helping others and it continues.

Have owned quite a few makes over the years, but never bothered with owners forums or clubs before.

However, have joined the Autosleepers owners forum a little while ago, and as others have said, it's useful for specific issues and problems, improvements that some have undertaken, sales and wants etc. There are some helpful people on there.

Inevitably, you don't get the breath or the numbers that you get on this forum, but I try and keep in touch/involved with both.
