I have just received my ‘3’ network unlimited Sim card. Installed in MiFi and working okay. If I wish to go abroad do I have to activate roaming, If so how would I do that in a MiFi unit? I will not be using it in a phone. Thanks.

I used mine in France this year good reception all the time I was there, only trouble is with the price cap it doesn’t last long

Try logging on to the 3 web site to activate roaming if required. My 3 SIM worked fine when I was in Greece without registering back in August!
Hi John, should have mentioned it is a DuperDrug ‘3’ card. No matter, I downloaded the TP link App for the MiFi and all the setting were there including Roaming which was off, switched it on, sorted.

I have used 3 phone and data only sims for at least ten years. My latest business contract is ten, all you can eat, phone use or data sim cards for £60 per month. Thats about how much I was paying for four sims previously. I have had a 3 sim in a mifi device in our ‘van for the last three years. There has always been a 20gb fair usage limit outside the UK. It sounds like that is now 12gb in the EU?
We use them everywhere in the UK without many issues, and also abroad without additional phone or data charges in many countries beyond the Eu. The US, Australia, Hong Kong and many more. I think in these non EU countries where they are free use, the limit is still 20gb.
I will find out next year how long it works in Spain before I need to swap sim cards. I have a few spare fortunately.
They are not the fastest or best phone or data network, but they work very well for us.
Good luck with your new sim.

I used Vodafone with my mifi for several years. Worked perfectly all over Europe. Sadly Brexit and the return of roaming charges has now capped data usage. As I streamed all my TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc…data capping has scuppered me. Currently on a campsite near Estepona with reasonable WiFi but, of course, cannot connect to iPlayer etc… via local routers.
Anybody discovered a good data only sim in Spain?
Or used VPN ?
I used Surfshark VPN in Spain and France and managed to get iPlayer. Sometimes it would come up with a wierd message so I'd have to close down iPlayer and start it again. That worked most of the time.

We use 2 phones, one on vodaphone network, other on EE , van on 3 via mifi..All on 30 day contracts, so. no penalty for shutting down any of them.

When we get to Spain and Portugal early next year and to avoid all the roaming costs , capping, throttling of data speed etc , we will just buy local Sims.....EG in Portugal , possibly NOS sim at around 1 euro per day for unlimited data...Spain , yet to explore what's available.
...
Orange....15 euros for 50GB - one month. No contract.
