Day 8 - Lettergesh, Connemara (20 June 2023)

Today was largely a rest day, allowing me time for chores such as laundry. But with a view from the van like this I'm happy.

So far in Ireland I've been driving on average 6 or so hours a day bit yet achieving only 775 miles. The roads are mostly slow with not even dual carriageways and far worse when you see a sign saying directing you down a tiny lane to a viewpoint.

Home, or base, for the next few days is the Connemara Camping and Caravanning Park. It's a simple site with some great views, but on the edge of nowhere. A few static caravans nearby but the main camper area is great with beach access from the site.

I first found this place 10 years ago when scuba diving. It was also the reason for me wanting a motorhome as my last visit 5 years ago in September saw horrendous weather. I couldn't escape the tent as my weight held it down in the wind yet the tent was folding in on top of me as the air beams collapsed.

The nearest pub is about 3.5 miles away. I was prepared and brought the e-bike. Paddy Coynes in Tully Cross is everything you want from a quirky Irish village pub. Just a shame currently they are not doing food which won them awards a few years ago. The owner even bought me a Guinness!

There can be some great sunsets viewed out to the Atlantic with the campsite having direct access to the beach. Unfortunately the clouds didn't quite play ball this evening.
