I have been in Scotland for a Motorhome Fun rally at Millport, Isle of Cumbrae. On the map the Stena Line ferry port at Cairnryan looked close as a good departure point. It proved to be a good 2 hours 80+ mile drive. With a quick top up on supplies I wildcamped in a lay by at a memorial for a Russian Cruiser that sank just off Lendalfoot, A77, Ayrshire. Some traffic noise through the night, but spectacular sunset.
I was up at silly o'clock for the 15miles or so drive to the 7:30am Stena ferry. That got me into Belfast around 9:45am.
A quick detour for Diesel which was about it's 7-10p a litre cheaper than the average of Scotland and England. I then drove round to the Titanic Quarter for the Titanic Experience.
I'm not really into museums and stuff, but the story behind this one intrigues me. At almost £25 for a ticket (add ons such as audio tour are extra), it's not cheap. I have to say it is well put together. It took me a couple of hours, and does take you through the industrialisation of Belfast and it's shipbuilding, the ship itself and it's fate with quite a poignant memorial wall listing of those saved and lost. There is quite a lot of interactive stuff, which includes a cleverly put together ride around displays showing the shipbuilding process.
Motorhomes won't be able to park at the experience venue itself due to their height but other car parks are within 20 minutes walk. I used the Odyssey at £4.50 for 4 hours.
Time to exit Belfast. I moved along the coast road to my overnight stop at Whitehead. A large tarmac car park with no real amenities other than a drinking water fountain where I managed to top off my 60l tank with a watering can. 10 min walk to the village centre hopefully I'll find a pub for that first Guinness.
