Cadenet was in our way on the bike route.
We saw it as we headed to Cucuron yesterday but didn't strike us as a must see, but we stopped anyway.
We may have made a mistake in following signs to the town centre which is at the bottom of the hill. Because the main attraction is at the top of the hill and it is well worth going to, even if walking from the bottom
As we cycled in we thought it was a nice new white limestonish town with central bars.
We saw the first statue fountain and then a plaque describing the interlinked fountains and lavoirs all over town so we followed the route without a map and there were nice bits as we moved into the old terracotta roofed area and gradually up hill
It was at this stage on mapy.cz there was a beauty point spotted a mere 10 yards from us (vertically) so we carried on up the path to a ruined castle left open to explore with views over the luberon valley.
As we climbed to the top we weren't expecting what looked like a Roman bath or square ampitheatre
Then a bridge over to what we presumed was a viewing area
And we nearly took the bridge but luckily spotted this set of stairs going down to darkness. Getting Paula to show the way for the photo but she refused to go down (first)
So I went down while Paula meandered about but I found a cave network with roof lighting and further steps and wells. Then Paula appeared in a window from outside but took far to jump down.
Eventually (after a phone call as we completely lost each other) she came down to one of the cave rooms where a family were having a picnic ... As you do in France.
Then tiny tunnels between interlinking rooms and then the views
We found a quicker way down but steep and the town still gave more
