Packed up after breakfast and left the camping carpark site just after 8.30am. Had a long fairly flat drive through open countryside. We noticed huge fields of corn have been left to rot in many of the fields we passed.
This is because French corn farmers are being told to leave crops unharvested in the latest sign of how soaring energy prices are heightening the risk of global food inflation. It costs too much to dry out the corn and uses a lot of gas energy so the farmers are leaving the crops unpicked. Such a waste!
We stopped at a supermarket for groceries and again on a motorway aire for coffee and a Danish. The sun is out, the skies are clear and it’s warm. Arrived at the camping carpark site in Beaulieu Sur Loire just after 1pm. Nice little site as it’s an ex municipal campsite so individual pitches on grass separated by hedging.
After lunch around 2.30, we cycled to the village boulangerie only to find it shut this week as they are on holiday!
Del had worked out a 7 mile ride but I abandoned it early on as the road surface was lumpy and gravelly. I came back and Del did the bike ride alone.
We did use the fairly basic shower facilities, they weren’t the sort of amenity that encourages you to linger whilst showering! We cooked pasta for tea and once it got chilly we watched tv on the iPad.
