I’m a newbie
I have a Fiat Ducato based Hymer which is great to drive except that it has a plastic steering wheel, which i dont like. Has anyone fitted a leather steering wheel cover, or do you know if it is possible to replace the whole steering wheel with a leather one? There are no steering wheel mounted controls on it apart from the horn.
Thanks

There used to be lots of lace on leather steering wheel "gloves". They are likely a slight rarity now given that leather stearing wheels are so common. Try a few searches on Ebay. You will likely come up with something.

EDIT: Here you go - Took 30 seconds to find:

Not on my Ducato, but I put a leather cover on a porsche 911 steering wheel that I had fitted to my VW T25.
It was bloody hard work, took 3 attempts to get it to a point that I was happy with, getting the correct tension in the thread so the seam met correctly, and was in the correct place on the inside of the rim took forever, and then there is the bleeding fingers, not from the needles, but from tensioning the thread.

There's a guy on Facebook does exchange Ducato steering wheels leather covered to your specification, I'd use him in a heartbeat rather than try again myself!

The finished porsche one

Thanks for the info. Nice job on the Porsche wheel! Is that a battery monitor on the dash there?

It's a scangauge, the van was a petrol that I converted to 1.9tdi with full electrics including cruise control, immobiliser & OBD.
The scangauge will read any information that the ECU reads, 4 items over the 2 lines - I like to keep an eye on the inlet air temp and the boost mainly, a few years earlier I managed to melt the cool side of the turbo into the cylinder head due to poor intercooler design and there's also a separate exhaust gas temp gauge as the older design ECU doesn't read that

There's a company called 'Royal Steering Wheels' that get loads of recommendations for repairs, or custom recovering. They have an example Ducato wheel on their website. Probably more expensive than the one-man-band Facebook ad though.
