Many of you will know that in many carparks in Powis one can park up overnight , one night in seven.
Thank you Powis County Council for this facility.

I've done Hay on Wye and Welshpool.
I'm wondering which one I might do next, in terms of interesting things to see, would you please advise......................................................

Thank you.

I just looked on Powys council website, I can't see any reference now to allowing overnight motorhome parking ?
Jake Royd do you know if it's still operating as before ?

Machynlleth (spelling probably wrong) is another .
Used to be capital of Wales, years ago I think.

Brecon is the top choice, overnight right against the river, and an interesting town surrounded by excellent walking country.

Welshpool - the free overnight carpark isn't quite so well located - by the lorry park. The main draw is the nearby Powis Castle which is excellent - both house and gardens (National Trust) and has good daytime motorhome parking.

Other good options - Rhayader for the Elan Valley reservoirs and waterfalls - good walking and cycling nearby, or the sleepy town of Builth Wells on the Wye.

Whilst it's still free to overnight in Powys carparks they have started to increase the daytime rates quite significantly, so if you arrive late and/or hang around in the morning it's not quite the bargain it once was.

Not a free Powys CC carpark, but a good nearby alternative nonetheless is the Memorial Hall and playing field car park at Clun on the Welsh Borders - another pretty town with castle and interesting history (Offa's Dyke). Lovely quiet spot to overnight - £10 honestly box.

Mccynleth... Not a big place but we have used the car park there as a winter stopover once.

You can also stay over officially at frankwell Shrewsbury, and Hereford near the leisure ctr.
