Currently based 'down under ' and looking to return 'home' to UK and scoot around Europe for a while.

Hoping to purchase a specific type of motorhome in advance of arriving to maximise our time....but...

Parents live in Scotland and over 70 with no medicals so I believe they can't drive over 3.5t....

Most motorhomes were looking at are down mid or southern England.

Anyone aware of inspection services around the Birmingham area for 2nd hand vehicles...and potentially relocation or storage.... We are prepared to buy a while in advance in we find the right thing and are confident in it.

Next part is insurance implications but that's probably another discussion!

Thanks in advance

If they had their licence since before 1997 (I think 1997) they would be allowed to drive C1 class which includes up to 7.5t. Not having any medical issues is good too.

the OP said his parents dont have a medical, so without that they wont be able to drive above 3,500kg ....

wanderingscot - keep an eye on the classifieds (if you dont have access as a non paying member, its worth joining !!) - funsters often sell their pre loved motorhomes and lots come with loads of extras and upgrades.

you could also put a 'wanted' advert of what youre specifically looking for in terms of layout, in case anyone is thinking of selling

layout is probably the most important aspect of selecting a motorhome (after weight and size, no point buying something you cant drive!), followed by the layout and then the layout ,,,,,,, toys etc can always be added, but if the sleeping arrangements, size of shower, size of fridge, number of seat belts dont meet your needs, then move on to the next one!

Not if they are now over 70 and didn’t specifically apply for C1 to continue and had the medical to go with it.

If they've 'no medical', ie they've not undergone a medical exam, I agree with you. However he said 'no medicals', which i read to mean no medical issues.

Yes they haven't done any medicals or used their C1 before.

Thanks. We know exactly what model we want and have hired for 2 weeks as well.
Problem is it's C1 so have been doing the DVLA onlne chat juggle as I'm grandfathered but not resident....but technically have a licence still. I think I've got as far as I can with them.
