Staying in Castilla - La Mancha, we travelled further west to the mountain village of Bienservida.

Standing at 1300 metres above sea level, it is a little Gem!!

Los alcazares on the nice part of today's cycle.
Just prior to a heavy rainfall and where the cycle path turned into another quagmire. Only 3 stops to clear the mud today

Waiting for lunch to arrive at the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel.

One of my prefered rides to there. In fact going next week again.
Over the dam down a little on the left a cafe that does the best sausage and egg sarnie in the w..o..r..l..d.

Be aware.

When we tried to drive around the lake a section of the road at the far end was closed off. Don’t know why but we came across the “Road Closed Ahead” sign and had to backtrack.

There were no warning signs until we arrived at the road block.

PS

Will consider the sausage and egg sarnie next time although the food, (and the view), at the hotel is excellent.

Agree. Have eaten lunch in there a couple of times.
I'll be on the bike next week so hopefully no road closures.

Last time we came to Buxton it chucked it down, so we couldn't do our second walk.

Today was dry but chilly.

Through the HSE Lab site.

Don't know what kind of experimentation goes on there 🐊

Then up, down, up, down, up, up, and more up.

Finally made it to Axe Edge.

A good walk along the whole length of the ridge. Been meaning to do it for decades.

Lots of Lapwings, but all concentrated near the main road, none on the rest of the moor!

Finally added on Solomon's Temple as we've never been to it. 3 people on the rest of the walk, hundreds round the Temple!

An afternoon birding really well off them beaten track crossing over the border into Cumbria through the village of Brampton set in a wonderful landscape and onto the Spadeadam ranges a truly wild and unspoilt area. (Spadeadam for those old enough think the Blue Streak Program) Then skirting the Butterburn Flow into the SW Wark Forest and back into Northumberland. The route is all single track roads with no real passing places for about 9 miles but so worth the drive. It ends at Churnsike after which it’s no unauthorised vehicle access through the forests.
