Just looking
Hi, small, maybe daft, but niggly question...
I'm looking to replace our old eating stuff. Whatever I choose has to have a decent lip on the dining plates (can't stand the nearly flat ones!) and good sized bowls. I've looked at lots, and each have their drawbacks. I don't like plastic either. So... Apparently, tempered glassware is strong, heat resistant and lightweight. Ok, I know I'd have to take extra care with it, but it seems to tick more boxes than it crosses.
We'll have a small microwave, so that rules out heating stuff in melamine, plus my teacups get dreadfully stained with tea. Thought about bamboo, but now apparently, that's not so brilliant.
What do you all think?

Tried melamine cups. Instructions say don’t put in boiling water???? So great for tea…not.
Stains easily. Hard to clean. So going back to good old pottery ones.
Plates and bowls are melamine still. That is under review.

I used to use toughened glass. Very hard to break and doesn't stain however have now moved to using ordinary stuff as it's nicer and cheaper too.

We have a set of "Corelle Crockery" that we got many years ago at a show..
Still in perfect condition despite being bounced of floor many times...
+1 it’s great stuff exactly like good crockery with out being fragile, have dropped some a few times over the years and it’s still fully intact,

Not bamboo. We've got some. It stains (coffee, spices in paella, curry, chilli). It's actually quite brittle (I dropped a mug and it exploded). Some were found to leech nasties with hot food/beverages. And apparently they aren't that much better for the environment either.

We brought Correlle plates etc 10+ year ago, lightweight and virtually indestructible also come in a range of patterns colours. Would replace with the IKEA version (plain white) if we ever need to. Argos used to do a patterned version don't know if they still do.

Use normal mugs, charity shop 50p.

We had the Ikea tempered glass but decided that it was very heavy so changed it for a plain white melamine camping set with anti-slip rings on the bases.

We have corelle, our daughter has Ikea 365 cheap and cheerful version
We bought the corelli and supplemented with some of the IKEA.

Paper plates, plastic forks & knives ,if needed , throw away after.
No No No No No. Bone China crockery, cut glass glasses and decanters, (preferably with silver antique name collars) and silver cutlery, after all we need to keep up standards, we're not caravaners you know.

Another+1 for Corelle, our has bounced around a lot with no ill effects.

I had thought of dipping a toe into the world of bamboo until I read this thread.

We use proper crockery at home so use proper stuff in the van.
Me too. I travel solo so the weight is immaterial. (One cannot savour one's St Emilion unless from a fine large and proper wine glass).

We had Turkish Melamine for over 30 years but it was getting a bit worn, far superior to the modern stuff so we changed a couple of years ago to the IKEA glassware, not the cheapest that was out of stock so the next one up still very cheap and been very pleased with it.

For drinking it has to be bone china mugs and glasses made from glass.
