We have been away in the van this weekend.Once again little to no phone or data signal ,this happens quite alot when going away. Does anyone out there use a mobile phone signal booster. If so are they any good and if they are ,any recommendations.

Basically, they don’t work.

An external aerial and mifi might be an option to get a better signal but if the signal isn’t there, it can’t be boosted generally.

I may be wrong but I thought mobile phone boosters were actually illegal?

Just had a Google (well a 'DuckDuckGo' to be precise!) and came up with this so it appears there are some that are legal, whether they work or not I haven't a clue!

My Sony Ericsson k800i phone had a little aerial socket in the back and when it clipped into the van cradle it connected with the aerial I fitted on the roof. It worked ok, if in a no service area you could make a call.
Don't know how you could improve a smartphone signal as none of them as far as I know have aerial sockets, 🤔

I have a poynting mifi WiFi Ariel, which attaches to a Huawei mifi, which has two Ariel connections on the side. The nifi is a E5577 I think, but you must check the mifi has the Ariel connectors.
It works well to boost a weak signal, but won’t get a none existing signal.

I bought a unit from Mobile Signal Boosters in 2021. I eventually got it to work with a Yagi aerial but it was a complete faff setting it up and adjusting it. It now doesn’t seem to help at all and lives in a bag in cupboard at home.

I count that as bonus... we relax and enjoy life without tech
I think it depends on how you do things. All my Maps and Guides are apps now. No signal, no walking or cycling or climbing.

Saves me buying maps locally and I get a lot more info. I can download if I know I am going somewhere without a signal. Often it’s too late by the time you find out. 😬
