Christmas in Spain

Just looking for some advice/thoughts if possible, we spent 3 months in Spain last year and came back just before Christmas, due to family commitments we can't travel until later in Oct so are contemplating spending Christmas in Benidorm. The 'frau' is concerned that it will be quiet and we would miss the family too much but I know there are many people who do winter in Benidorm including over Christmas. Grateful for your thoughts and advice on whether it is worth staying for Crimbo or should we come home.

Although not in Benidorm myself I’ve spent a few Xmas out there and only 15 minutes from Benidorm, it’s quite a lively time and I think some/most sites do something for Christmas, if your going out for Christmas Day for dinner you’ll need to book… new year just as good…😎
 
I would love to spend Christmas in Spain, preferably somewhere away from people. Swmbo won't entertain the idea. We will be at my brothers in Yorkshire which isn't too bad though, staying at his chalet on Bridlington beach, which is pretty deserted at that time of year. Christmas day will be at their house and someone else will be doing the cooking 😊

Give it a go....the Spanish make Christmas Eve a big event....family type of thing.... choosing Benidorm will give you a wider selection of food types...if you must have traditional then book and enjoy...of course you have good accommodation and nice weather..
We are staying home this year....might have some of the family with us just a couple of hours south of Beni...👍😃😀
 
Benidorm is very lively over Xmas new year and the three Kings...BUSBY.
 
Been spending Xmas in Spain / Portugal for the last 9 years. Would not spend it any other way, the last 5 years has just been Spain as we go where the weather is best when we are there. We usually travel over around the 16 December and come back around the 8 Jan due to work. This year we are going earlier due to work commitments but will still be there over Xmas just coming back by new years eve unfortunately.

The wife and I retired 10 years ago this autumn, we had bought a Autotrail Cheyenne 660EB and we had gone to Sete (F) and Roses (E) to try it out. When we got home, Nov 4th, itchy feet took over and 10 days later we set off fully packed, didn’t have a clue where we were going. After 4 days we got to Benidorm. We didn’t have a clue what to do so we booked into the Vilasol camp site for initially 4 nights in the end we stayed there right through Christmas, and into late February. It was great, it was cheap too. The Wednesday and Sunday market was a short walk away, we were 5 mins walk to the beach, if that. It was packed with lovely older generation people early retirees and ranged from 50-85, but mostly around 60. The madness of summer stag parties was gone, the pubs and clubs became quieter and catered for the more mature type. There were the occasional party and hen do but not like summer. The costs seemed to drop too, yet it was still very busy, lots to do and lots to see. The British quarter was still noisy enough but you could stroll the front and get a few quiet beers, there were several bars where someone was playing a piano and people were dancing. It was warm with no rain, but at night in Early Feb the temperature dropped, the outside pool was cold, but indoors it was heated. Christmas and new year was good too, lots of Christmas and New Year parties in hotels and bars. There was a concert in the club house with games and bingo. People on the site had street parties, bring a bottle and some food to share and slowly get snozzled.. but there was no bad feelings, no fighting just good humoured banter. It was so good we went back the following year.
 
Does anyone have any recommendations for a campsite for Xmas between Valencia and The Pyrenees?

That's a vast and diverse area you've chosen...any chance on narrowing it down a little.....coastal or Inland..
 
What’s the drive like to get from Calais to Southern Spain at that time of year?
We are not great lovers of Christmas in the UK. A change of scenery and possibility of warmth sounds appealing.

Hi Tim,
I have spent the last ten Christmas's in Benidorm, tell your Frau ha ha I like that !! that there is " no problem ", everywhere is open and geared up for Christmas without all the hype and hassle here in the UK,
Plus plenty of nice people to celebrate it with, in whatever way you want to,
Hope you have a great time if you decide to, may even meet up somewhere, plenty of Funsters there as well !!! 👍😀👍

On the coast road or not too far inland. Thanks.
Heading to Toulouse for new year.

We drive down in January and the roads are quite, which they mainly are in France/Spain anyway. Dont forget your snow tyres or snow chains for travelling down the eastern side of France. Search the threads about it if you are not sure.

That seems such a lifetime ago :) hard to believe that was back in 2013/2014 where has the time gone, how time's have changed.

Older, maybe not wiser though lol

Was it really almost a decade ago. How time flies. It's good to see you continued to motorhome, even with the problems you had.

It would be good to meet up again sometime. Maybe on a campsite or parkup somewhere in Spain 👍👍

We are down that way Mid December or rather near Cartagena, shout if you are passing through or near.
 
We love Spain at Christmas it’s so peaceful if you know where to go none of the hype that goes on in the UK 😊

Where near Cartagena? We can drive there from home in no time.

Is it worth going lower down the coast than Valencia for the “better” weather?
We were thinking of around and above Barcelona then Andorra then Toulouse then Loire then dieppe then home.
 
Its not going to be as warm in Barcelona around Xmas time than further south but then you never know, we just normally follow the weather when we are there although the last couple of years we have booked due to covid but we've still headed for the southern tip of Spain as usually this is where we have seen better weather. We've also spent Xmas in the Algarve in Portugal as that's had some good weather for us that time of year.
