Safely disposing of toilet waste ?

If you do have to use a public loo to empty the cassette make sure you clean the facilities after you have made use of them. It's always good etiquette to leave it cleaner than when you arrived. The bathroom cleaning wipes you can buy (Dettol or own brand) are not good for the environment (and never flush them) but do a very good cleaning job and are convenient. Some are now plastic free I think.

I tend to empty the cassette a bit at a time then flush after each partial empty to try to avoid the drain blocking. I clean the cubicle and the hand wash area and also use a liberal amount of air freshener afterwards. Luckily I have only had to use public loos for cassette empty a very few times in over 20 years of motorhoming.

To extend the length of time between emptying use a pee bottle, much easier to dispose of the contents than a cassette.

If true, then they bring it on themselves when they complain that shit is found at the side of the road/in hedges/in sand dunes/in water courses/public places etc etc etc if they stop people from at least trying to dispose of waste in acceptable facilities
Are you aware that many toilets in rural areas operate using only a septic tank system and people emptying toilet chemicals into those types of systems can stop the effective operation of the system. In addition the chemicals can leach into the soil leading to contamination, hence the reason for no cassette emptying!

That’s great when you reach out of bed in the night for a swig 🤮

Presume the bottle is then emptied into the washbasin and into your grey holding tank. Hope Mr Minxy is tall enough to avoid the need for a bottle.:ROFLMAO:

He still goes to the washroom as he washes his hands afterwards, I suppose he could do a 'Red Dwarf' and use tongs. 😄

Noooooo!!!!! 😱

Seriously though what would be the issue with using the grey tank for wee if you were able to empty it properly (ie in a black waste point)? 🤔

Virtually every public toilet on the NC500 route in Scotland says 'no emptying of motorhome toilets'.
Probably because they are on septic tanks and don't want chemicals in them, not a problem if you don't use chemicals like us.

Now as for emptying the black waste, you need Operation Dump The Dumps….

While out wild camping or being an FLT around Norfolk, I was stealth dumping my black waste in Tescos and chatting about it on another tread when I was asked how I did it.

Op Dump the Dumps involves taking the cassette out, popping it inside a black plastic bag and slipping it into my burgan. Then off to the loo where it's emptied ready for further use.

The journey back with the empty cassette is a lot easier, lighter and less "sploshy" than on the way there.

Put ours in a rubble sack then in our wheelie shopping bag. Had to do a stealth dump in a very busy Morrissons last year, tried not to look guilty going past the security guard, got in a cubicle then waited until it was quiet and no one in the loo, a quick dump & flush as it pongs a bit without chemicals, then check for splashes & leave it cleaner than when I went in.

Therfore it would be better to have signs saying no emptying of chemicals.

I haven't used chemicals in my cassette in about 6 years. Don't use the washing capsules method either. If I use the cassette the only thing that goes in it is poo ,pee and toilet paper. It can then be emptied in any toilet.

Thar said if there are not easy, regular , dump points available to me ie aires I just don't use the cassette , I'd rather just use pee bottles and bag and bin solids. When you have dogs you've to pick up after it becomes second nature to just bag it . And it actually removes any worrying about having a near full cassette and nowhere to empty it,carrying two cassettes just doubled that anxiety. The pee can be discretely emptied anywhere.

And they don't want the mess that would no doubt get left, you might be civilised Lenny but we have to accept that not everybody is ;)

Basically you would be turning your grey tank into a black tank, on most vans the venting for grey and black is exactly the same, sometimes up to roof level but ours are both underneath, yes they can smell but that is both of them and sometimes the grey is worse than the black, I have fitted charcoal filters to both vents and they seem to be working well so far.

So, what part of you, hanging around in the Gents toilet's AND taking your Wheelie shopping bag with you into the cubicle (an achievement in itself if closing the door) don't you think was not suspicious? 😆

I have only used a public loo 3 or 4 times but found the best way was to start the flush as you empty the cassette, this reduces any smells and potential overfilling. Then a further flush once the cassette is empty.
We always use bio washing liquid or tabs, so feel that we can empty into any system safely.
If you are wild camping ,don't wait till your cassette is full to the brim but use emptying facilities as you travel.even if its just after a couple of uses. (y)

I agree!

Unfortunately not everybody understands how these things operate nor cares to be honest. As usual others suffer.

Highland council do have a map of all their loos as well as others who allow use of facilities. They also suggest the bag it, bin it method if needed.
