Over the last couple of weeks we have been having trouble with our water pump. When ever we turn taps on we get no water coming through. We have plenty of water and the main control switch is on and the electric is on. The only way we can get water is to use the main water switch on the control Panel. When we use this method The pump makes quite a lot of noise. Sorry at this precise time we don’t know the make of the pump, as Carthago have protected it with a guard around the pump. Until we back from France next week I cannot get to the pump. Suggestions please.

I think turning the water switch on the main panel on is normal. We leave ours on and then turn off while travelling. 👍

Thanks for your response. Might not have made the question clear. I state that the main control WAS on and the electricity. The only way we can get water through the taps and loo is to use the tap icon on the main control board.

On my panel, that IS the control that has to be on all the time if I want water to the taps & loo?

Edit. On mine I also need the 'AUX' button on.

Hope that helps? 🙂

You need that on all the time like every motorhome or caravan I've had? Once on and you turn a tap on water will flow either via pressure drop or a microswitch on the tap.

To get the water pump working your panel should look like this, or similar, depending on the control panel fitted. The pump will then activate when you turn on a tap. Your SOG ( if you have one) won't work either unless the pump ( tap icon on panel) is switched on.

Edit. Sorry if I have misconstrued your problem.

“ The tap icon on the main control board” has to be ON.

Is it OK now colyboy ?

Again thanks.

if I switch on the tap icon on the control panel and turn on a tap the water will flow. When I turn off that that tap , the noise continues the pump will NOT TURN OFF Until I turn off the tap icon on the control panel.

I get it now. Either a leak or faulty pump then. Removing the cage around the pump isn't difficult. Just a few screws. There is also a screw to adjust the pressure switch on the pump.
The standard pump in my Carthago is branded as Lily, but Shureflo and others do an equivalent pump. Any motorhome accessories shop should have one. It doesn't look like it would be a difficult job to replace the pump.

Turn the pump on and look to see if the water is flowing out somewhere it shouldn’t. Has one of the drain valves been left open?

You have air in the system colyboy open all the taps to purge the air from the system the pressure will them build up and pump will stop the pump you have is lille soft flow series.

Thanks you all for your help and suggestions. We are still in France until the end of the month.

will try asap or may wait till we get home .

Tried for a short while yesterday , that is turning all taps etc hopefully to clear any “airlock” we may have. We were camping of grid and did have enough water to last very long. I will let you know if the taps on work , I hope so or it may need a new pump!

Hi to you, thanks all the suggestions re my “iffy” water pump problems . I have a chance yesterday to try and purge the water. This did not solve the problem, so it sounds like it could be the pump. I will have a look when we get back from France next. I am a reasonable DIY person I take it if I have to have new pump I could fit it?

Thanks again

My last Shurflo replacement pump, I did it on the side of the road.
An hour tops( if you can get to it easily) , it's so simple. 🙂

Before replacing pump, check filter on inlet side.

Update re iffy water pump.

went to turn the water pump on via the main controller and nothing!

It seems like the pump has now stopped working completely.

New pump?

Checking with dealers who we bought the van from, to see if it is still under warranty!
