Just had a report from Des n Donnut that they have had ( of all things ) a baby buggy stolen from behind the van ( several hundred quids worth  ) .. Not sure where they were in France but would guess the Bordeaux / Limousin area as that is where they normally go before heading over to Italy to meet up with us.

Reason for this post is that they have spoken to folk about it at various sites as they are travelling and 'opportunity' thefts seem to be happing VERY regularly to UK plated vans..

I would urge considerable diligence and careful security if travelling in France at the moment

Very unfair on French people. I think if you were daft enough to leave a 'hundreds' of pounds buggy at the back of your van in the UK it would disappear as well

I use a Maclaren Volo, £60 in John Lewis, light and folds down so small, never been nicked :thumb:

A couple of years ago in The Vendee..a young kid tried stealing my small chocks that I used in conjunction with my levelling ramps...I slapped him round the earole and dragged him to where his pitch was...A Brit chav kid..giving us all a bad name..His dad said oh no I think your wrong he wouldn't do that..so I said why was he sneakin round my van at 10'o'clock at night and trying to pull the chocks out when I grabbed him..So I told him if he came anywhere near my van again I'd give him a lot of GBH...2 days later they were escorted off site after the kid was caught stealing from another van..He was trying to pilfer...of all things an aquaroll!!!
Just proves some people will have anything away

I'm afraid it's a sad fact of life these days, across most countries and cultures. I've never bothered locking my house or car here but there have been reports of petty thieving so now try to remember to lock up.

My friend works in a charity shop (Croix Rouge) where all the shoes are in a very small room (More like a walk-in wardrobe) A travelling lady came in--and later they found her shoes where she'd left them & walked out in a better pair. Maybe she considered it a fair swap!

Sorry to hear that Jaws.

I'm sure they wouldn't just abandon the buggy in a random fashion, they are far too useful let alone expensive. Ruddy nightmare to be without. Jaws hasn't explained the situation in excruciating minutiae, (nor would I expect him to have to do so) Neither do we know where the van was at the time - public highway, supermarket carpark, motorway aire, MH aire, campsite ........

It's most unfair to jump to the conclusion that the victims were the authors of their own misfortune.

French people? Did I read the same post as you?

It could be perceived as wrong to start a thread without the full facts then and start accusing people, it could have rolled down a hill or over a cliff, who knows, according to your train of thought :thumb:

All I know is that if it was hundreds of pounds, more the fool them, maybe should have bought one slightly cheaper and a lock

Was the child in it, just a thought? :Eeek:

Just to clarify, the buggy was not LEFT behind the motorhome, it was folded up and on the rack of the motorhome

Never said it was French folk... truth is it is unlikely to be French people.. probably migrant workers who are finding it hard to get work so resorting to anything they can to keep fed.
Not right but hey....

No finger pointing done at all, merely a warning to people travelling in the area.

So Swift, if you wish to comment on a post I make do me the courtesy of not making assumptions nor misquoting me..
Quite frankly I again find your post insulting and obviously made to pee me off.. Forget it mate.. Trolls are just fun

Go on Swift.. put out another apology for all your belligerent remarks.. :thumb: I am sure everyone is really interested in reading another :Rofl1:

Jaws, perhaps you should wait for FULL facts, you know it gets me going off on one, I think you are the Troll fishing

Anyway, glad the baby was not inside, I am sure it was insured (buggy not baby) and my policy will rise again next year, but hey ho, I guess that's what the policies are for. I guess I should spend less on locks and worrying about safety, and let the policy take the strain, but a little something inside me doesn't want some thieving git (hungry immigrant or not) nicking my stuff I have worked damn hard to pay for

And quite possibly I do not give a fig what you think :thumb:

By the time I meet up with my daughter and the rest of the family in Italy, and get back home, the summer will be over and there will be little point in suggesting people take extra care as they will already have travelled and be back home

must have been a tasty buggy

Well if it the one I think it is ( for two of the several dozen great grandchildren we seem to have amassed ) either one of the Silver Cross Freeways or the 3D.. both over 300 beer tokens

Children, children....play nicely!
Never understood why anyone buys any of the bloated, ridiculous and over-priced baby buggy strollers that are around these days. What is wrong with the classic McLaren that all four of my kids travelled in? Cheap, light, manoeuvrable, fold down small to fit in the car or on the bus and tube and don't hog the pavement or narrow aisles in shops. These latter day monsters are just a conceit.

Perhaps you would care to explain what your opinion of my daughter buying a pram for her daughter daughter has to do with the original post ?

Think its time I was outa here..

Dont need the grief or the jibes

You brought it up, as for spending £300, well easy come easy go I guess

I see the Chavs with all the nonsense traipsing around, what a load of coblers, all you need is a fold up one as mentioned for a few quid, more dole money than sense these type of people

Hey what's got into your pants??? :Eeek:

John (JAWS) was very kindly pointing out what has happened to warn others who are heading off to France this summer!
There's certainly no need to slag off Des and Donna - you obviously don't know this lovely caring family like others of us do! What have they done to deserve this?

Keep that sort of posting for other forums - we don't do that on here!

Now I have attracted your attention I expect you will be stuck to me like dog doo until I get fed up and ignore you :Rofl1:

Who rattled your cage :Rofl1: I just went on the partial facts posted, so please don't have a go, everything I said I stand by, you may have your own opinions so post them, but it is rude to have a go at other respectable forum members for no good reason

I don't have anything against you, its just that some of your posts can be slightly antagonistic, but you have as much right to post your views as anyone :thumb:

Hmmm - isn't that what you were doing???

There is no reason to have a pop at people who buy an expensive pushchair - basically whatever it's worth it shouldn't be nicked :Eeek:
They are entitled to spend their hard earned money however they choose!

Well get a lock for it!! I just laid out for a roofbox to 'put away' and 'out of site' stuff like that and it has LOCKS, so no excuse at all I'm afraid, lock it if you leave it, SIMPLE

PP, leave him mate.. He has been deliberately causing trouble and trying to wind up all sorts of folk..
He comes on, posts some nasty snide comments.. says sorry and makes out to apologise and then does it all again.. As if no one notices ! LOL !!

Not worth getting upset about .. as said elsewhere, trolls are trolls
They thrive on folk getting upset

Thing is though, like the bogey men mentioned in Terry Pratchett books, once they are recognised for what they are they have no power
