A friend of mine has recently purchased this for when he travels around France. I initially thought it would be unnecessary as we tend to bypass the main cities. However I thought about the times when we will be driving on the motorway through Lille and then again Toulouse. What do you all think will we need it

Think very hefty fine or 4.80 Euro ,no brainier

Unless you've got a very modern very low emissions motorhome, there ain't a great deal of point in getting one..
That's cos the category of sticker youll end up receiving will simply confirm that at times of highpollution when a city might actually activate its critair controls, your Critair category 4 or 5 vehicle would not be allowed in anyway.

You can see from the chart on the official French government critair website which category your vehicle would be in.

3 got it today

Category 2,got ours a couple of weeks ago ready for this year.

The process of obtaining one is simple and, at less than 5 euros, it’s worth it.

If you have any form of photographic package you should be able to select to save as a jpg and reduce the number of pixels. This will shrink the image file size without shrinking the actual image size.

Alternatively scan as a pdf file which should require a smaller image file size.

Sorry, I am no computer expert but someone will be along soon who is.:)

We’ve driven to the south of France, along the med, up to, around and into the outskirts of Toulouse ( took the wrong turning) and we have seen 2 vehicles with Crit Air stickers, both yellow ( class 2 ) and on cars parked in a town 20 miles north of Toulouse.
I don’t think the French are too bothered about getting them unless they work in the affected towns.
I certainly haven’t seen any Motorhomes with them
But, I’ll probably buy one for the van and one for the car when we get back home. Just in case.

Interesting that they now have the ability to charge lower parking fees depending upon your category.

I think the French (an d Germans) are dealing with this much better than successive governments in the UK. One relatively easy method to identify your likely levels of pollution that applies to the whole of the country. Compare that with, for example, the way it is dealt with in London. Different zones with different requirements and no way of readily identifying a vehicle as complying or not unless you have an ANPR camera! And even then no way of dealing with the category of vehicles from other countries.

68€ is fine in France Not worth worrying about.
40€ in Germany

The Emission zone registers any foreign vehicle. Mine is registered and is allowed to be inside. If you are foreign registered & don't register you will receive a letter telling you that you should have registered & if you don't & get caught for a second time the you will receive a £1200 fine. The letter is sent to the address where the vehicle is registered.
I.e. for me , Spain

We bought one before our recent trip so we did not need to consider this when choosing routes. Ours seems to be group 2, which is both euro 5 and 6 for diesel.
We also have a german one which is a different number and a different colour.
If the EU continues like this our van could finish up with 27 stickers all saying the same thing in different ways. Maybe its naive to expect some sort of coordination.

I did ours by my camera, after lots of othere ways.Phone did it straight away,it's not a posh phone, just a standard Android.
