Celebrity 5 Go Motorhoming- Channel 5

Did not watch, will not watch, why do programmes have to have bloody so called celebrities, my wife watched, said 3 cliffs looked nice, £30 a night too rich for me.

Who will empty the toilet cassette?

Well I've heard of 3 of them Don probably being the only current celebrity (Death in Paradise). I though I was going to cringe but it was quite amusing even if a bit stupid.
As for Leslie taking the A Class down those country lanes even if she did loose a mirror well done. Melvin's little man syndrome was cringe worthy but had to admire his fitness for his age.
The thing that did really make me cringe was why did that have to stay at those awfull CC sites yuck.

Was entertaining, cringe-worthy, interesting to see how 'stuck up' certain ones were!

I don't think this is in any way meant to be a "serious" programme on the joys of motorhoming.............its meant to be "fun"............just like this site so let's all lighten up a bit.

The Tincas

Why do they always use "celebs"(in the loosest sense) they are not "normal" people to start with , they are always acting . I managed about 20 mins on catch up couldn't stand any more . It would have been better if they used the average person who would have really enjoyed the chance and given a more real reaction to it all, and the audience could more
easily identify with . JMHO

To be fair to the ones that escaped to the yurt did you see the beds they had in the motorhome? They gave the smaller van to the 3 men lol I wouldn't sleep in those bunks either, Melvin was right when he said it was like a coffin
Didn't like that benimar conversion at all

RANT ALERT...

Contrived. If anyone believes that they arrived in the dark and set up their motorhomes themselves, or got to race complete strangers in a rowing event without a camera crew and production team, Director etc all there to set it all up, then Santa will come and visit you at Christmas.

They were all far too "precious" to actually do any of that as a group of 5 on their own. As for Melvin Hayes telling the pub "audience" they were all marvellous, I can't think how he could have been more patronising. It was only because they laughed politely at his stories. He didn't even finish his ginger beer.

Some "celebrities" will do anything for money. In my opinion, it brings our leisure activities into disrepute. Anyone remember Tony Hancock as the radio ham? Many of the radio fraternity at the time were not amused, but at least that was an honest attempt at humour. I'm not sure what this was.

Will anyone contemplating taking up motor-homing who watched this be reassured?

The production company and TV execs who dreamt up putting 80+ year olds in an environment they have never experienced to make a TV program to sell advertising, just because they were once famous for something so we could watch them making it obvious that for the most part they would rather not be doing it managed only to discredit themselves.

Shame on the Caravan and Motorhome club for getting sucked in. Who will value their manoeuvring training courses after seeing the results?

I know, I'm just a cynical old git..
It worked because we are talking about it on here,,if it failed no one would mention it,,bit of harmless fun,,,,better than any of The Soaps that clog up all the main channels,,BUSBY:D2:D2:D2

Is this the Scary, Horror Movie thread?

It was all a put up job IMO! I'm not sure it will make the love for MoHos to drivers at all. I know it's a fore shortening camera illusion but the 'apparent' speeds they seem to be travelling in those lanes scared me.

Also that road to Gospel Pass and off the mountain are a nightmare in a car, let alone a MoHo. I feel certain they will have 'closed' the road or run a block car ahead of the convoy.

I found the pub scene an embarrassment.

But it's TV, not real.

We really enjoyed the show since it was a bit of light hearted entertainment IMO.

That said we did wonder if the public are now clambering down to their local MoHo dealer to buy a van as a product of the show. I'm not sure!

Cheers,

Andrew

P.S. I wonder if that Benimar is running over its 3.5T limit:rolleyes:

A smart move on the advertising front for Marquis I thought :)

For those that don't know, there are strict rules regarding advertising in these types of programs (I get calls quite often from the home improvement type programs). Using vans that are exclusive to them, then running a "competition" with the name everywhere was smart imo :)

Anyway, I liked it and will watch the next one.

I looked up the payloads the Benimar probably OK but the A Class at 3.5t no way.

I have a lot of time for Lesley Joseph, her elderly Mom was on the same ward as my Dad,she visited her every day and stayed for ages and also fed her.I thought she drove a large van competently. The program was good for the scenery ,Fishguard looked lovely.

Why "celebs"?
Because they are professionals in front of a camera.
It's their job, they know how to do it to make it look as natural as TV can be.
As for the price of the site - they must be doing something right because as one of them said... they were surprised so many were there!

I was pleasantly surprised - thought they'd been set up to fail, 5 strangers completely new to MH's, etc etc but they seemed to get along quite well. No hissy fits.
I'm not sure though the director knows what he wants as his narrative - 5 make a hash of MH'ing, comedy... or 5 bond with warm heartening conversations, buddy... or 5 visit beautiful Britain, travelogue...

They had electric the first night, the second night they didn't know what to do with the cables?
The mobilvetta was 3.5t so lesley said, not a chance!
It a bit of a set up methinks.
Loved the scenery though, I haven't been to that campsite in the gower but I have been to that waterfall, it will make a few want to go to Wales

Must be good to have some "clout"?:whistle:

Must admit, it did make me want to go there (y)

As for the rest of the prog - quite reasonable and good to see so many positive comments on here - Gordon

Glad I wasn't driving down some of those roads as my first introduction to driving a MH :)
What really happened when they did that "turn around"? What was the van marked "WARDEN" doing?
Not sure that i'd be overly keen even now!

Of course it's a " put up job" Has to be filmed, and fit to be seen on TV, or there wouldn't be a programme!

If anyone remembers one of the earliest "Brits in the Dordogne" programmes, we had organised a quiz night fund raiser ( I was writing the quiz questions) but TV production company wanted us to play bingo. It was either go with that, getting a lot of people in for the evening who wanted to be on telly and more publicity & money for the local charity, or it wouldn't be filmed. It was just fun, 2 lads who did the filming were great, and no one took it too seriously--- it wasn't a summit meeting on world peace.

Especially as;

Do you take groups?

No, we only accept families and couples. Single guests are also welcome. We have a strict 10pm latest "quiet rule", and all campers are required to keep to this, including keeping talking and noise to an absolute minimum. All music must be turned off after this time. We ask you to respect your fellow campers on site. During the start and end of the season, we might make this time limit earlier to observe the darker evenings in Spring and Autumn. If you are playing music excessively loud during the day, and it is affecting other campers, then we also reserve the right to ask you to turn it off at any point in the day.

With Clio sitting beside you, who needs a view .......:Eeek: :whistle2:

It was fun....showed us some places we haven't been to and are unlikely to ever visit...( due to wheelchair) but thoroughly enjoyable, lighthearted fun. On a par with the canal boat one which had Nigel Havers, Debbie McGee, Simon Callow and Lorraine Chase. It was a lovely programme and I think this will be the same.

To be fair it did look they were on Battery power the first night, arriving in the dark.

Not seen the program, but if the weather is with you, Three Cliffs Bay is a cracking campsite/location!
