FUNSTER in a PVC
The same happened in the States with prices shooting up and quality going down, the market has now peeked and stock levels rising with falling demand for the bigger RVs. Many Yanks are downsizing to PVCs but even those are overpriced and market is slow.
Some dealers like Camperworld are closing sites down.

A lot of base vehicles are way over £50k now alone. Not talking about anything completely over the top or 4x4 etc, just a normal, nice spec van. Crazy tbh.
I agree, so why buy new and take on the biggest depreciation ever?
I have always preferred secondhand vehicles with a non rusty, sound body and, if the price is right to allow for any serious mechanical work to be rectified, that's what I go for.

As Derek from Bangers & Cash said the other day, ",you can have just as much fun in a £5000 Triumph Herald as you can in a £50,000 Aston Martin"
and, I would add, probably more!

There are a lot of old, reasonable priced, Fiat's and Talbot's out there and more fixable if they have been well maintained.👍

That’s how much the Rolling Homes VW Crafter as tested by MMM will cost you . A more ‘reasonable’ £99,995 without the extras. That’s a lot of money for a Van Conversion is it not? Or m

It all comes down to personal choice, there are plenty of good quality very low mileage used Motorhomes out there. You could get an excellent example for half that money. Some older models across all make/ ranges are much better quality on the fit out. IMO

Can't afford to take ours anywhere near that there Lundun
We often use our van in London, mainly Abbey Wood or Crystal Palace sites. £30/40 pn in London is cheap these days for 2 people. Luckily our van is ULEZ compliant. It’s probably the maximum I would pay anywhere to camp but its location and facilities are excellent.

Well it is all down to supply and demand….if we are buying them then the price must be right? If it wasn’t we wouldn’t buy them.

Our 4.25t Euro IV is £100/day so effectively a no-go zone for us unless there's some really good reason. To be fair we've stayed further out and got the train in instead a couple of times which suits us better anyway.

Factor in peer pressure and keeping up with the Jones's syndrome, people will tend to stretch themselves financially, which helps the dealers keep the prices inappropriately high.

I have never understood why anyone would sell a good, reliable vehicle that has suited ones needs for a number of years that is only a few years old and replace it with a new one that has cost the buyer a lot in depreciation and will, often, have weeks/months of teething problems.
One Funster, who waited nearly 2yrs for his new vehicle to be delivered, then, for various reasons, only had a couple of months use in the first 18months!
Some people will say it's to keep up the various emission zones but, if they registered, that issue could be solved and they would save £housands.

On a slightly different tack during the pandemic you could not get a new pedal cycle for love nor money , waiting list several months. Fast forward to today two big retailers have gone bust Wiggle being one and because of over production in the Far East you can now get 50% off most new bikes! Similarly my sister and her husband are trying to get a few days away here in the U.K. Prices are ridiculously high and lack off booking availability.

I have just had ten days in Devon and Cornwall, booked the NT CL at Stourhead for e route overnight, but then used Search for Sites Bentween £20 and £28.00 per night and one Pub Stop.
So owning a leisure vehicle is a route to cheaper getaways.

I don't think it's anything to do with can't afford, from my perspective anyway it's about having to pay for things that we don't want or need, the way I see it the more you pay for your van the less you want/need to use the site facilities, the electric is 13A "no thanks we have loads of solar and lithium" the shower block is heated "don't need it thank we have a lovely shower and heated towel rail in the van" "we have a full water tank so just need to empty at the end of the week" oh no they say you can't empty your black tank over our nice shiny service point grid, and then to add insult to injury they are usually in the middle of nowhere, give me a car park close to something anytime.
" In you're own space ,in your're own time " ,a mantra i work to as well. Everything on board needed,self contained,with you're clothes,food,entertainment,,no smelly hotel/B&B showers,pillow cases/sheets etc .independance !!

And now the importers are overstocked and off loading them I bought a new bike last Wednesday £2800 a month ago it would have been £4500.

It really amuses me that people pay so much for a PVC with a VW badge, without a decent shower or toilet. Isnt it the Grand California that you can't get at the toilet with the bed up/out whatever and btw they're over 3500kgs anyway .

Regarding Mpg, its going to be an awfully long time before I clock up the difference for the money I paid for my lovely old girl.

If you're looking for more Mh for your money then get yourself a C licence.

At my local tip it surprises me to always see around 20 bicycles in a compound, all in presentable condition and probably only needing a new brake cable, tyre or the gears adjusted.

Autotrail
We are in the “camp” of buying a cheap brand new PVC! Due in June 🤞Doesn’t feel cheap to us!
We were seriously looking just before COVID and they were around £52,000
Our current 12 year old Autotrail Excel is lovely but has a huge fridge which we don’t want now and is a little too big for where we live ( very narrow lanes with few passing places!) We also wanted peace of mind with a warranty. Looking at some 2/3 years old and the prices were only around £5k cheaper, than buying new! the deciding factor for us was the dealers offer for our current MH which was exactly what we paid for it in 2018!
So we concluded that pre COVID we would have got a van for £10k less but probably got around £10k less for ours too!
Hope that makes sense 😊

As long as the Whoosh Bang door is electric, that is fine.
Stops it being annoying to neighbours

Regarding bikes the first was the cost of components rocketed for two reasons , the first is like vehicle manufacturers you couldn’t get chipsets for e-bikes so when you did the cost was high, shipping costs went astronomical and whilst there is still demand people have not got the disposable cash and the dealers who have over stocked are slashing prices firstly components have become more readily available and shipping costs have come down, then because of needing to move stock even specialised have big reductions. It’s complex situation not just oversupply.

Who cares about the neighbours they may hate a wish bang a couple of times a day but their yapping dog or screaming kids are worse

If a dealer can sell at a price, why should they give it away for less?
It's a simple case of supply and demand. Prices will come down if no-one will buy.
As for a VW base, that's a premium I'd be willing to pay for over Fiat. Shame that Carthago don't use VW for their Malibu.

It's a Specialized I bought.
Last week my cycling mad, Marathon and Triathlon elder son received a tandem frame that he's had made in China to his own design and dimensions, plus a rack to carry it on the back of his new PVC. My only comment was to have damn good security.
I was hoping to see it this weekend but they are on a (very wet) site at Corfe.

This VW crafter is the first so called premium brand I have ever bought. Car or motorhome.

Oh it’s so much better than the Fiat

Is it better than the fiat value for money. I’m not sure yet. Probably only find out on trade in

The last Fiat comformatic we had from new for 4 years and made 10k on what we paid. For us that is one reason we decided to change
The main reason was the comformatic gearbox

I’d still consider a Fiat in the future though. But the proper auto.

Haven’t seen sale pricing for a while but dealers are starting to promote sales pricing. On some models

I scrolled through Lwdhams offers and did not see one 'A' Class. Are they going downmarket?

Or are 'A' Class owners more 'keepers'?

Perhaps, now we are 3yrs on from the pandemic when the owners possibly paid premium prices, they are not being offered the price they want as a 'trade in'?
