Hi All,

I am new to this and not very clued up on techno stuff!

I am looking for advise on how I can use a Firestick to stream programmes to the TV. Looking through the posts opens up lots of options but at the moment I do not want to be spending lots on state of the art antennas.

I am looking to use mainly in the UK but may have the odd trip into the EU.

What is a cheapish fix if any?

The cheapest way to do it is use your phone as a hotspot and use your data from that.
Make sure you have a good amount of data as a firestick can use uprto 1gb an hour.

A lunch box and a 1m piece of string !

Pop your phone in the lunch box tie the string to it and put the box out the skylight on the roof with the string dangling in
The string is to remind you / stop the box falling off if you forget it

Oh and use the phone as a ‘hotspot’

Just got back from a weekend away with the MH. I have decided to go down the MIFI route and sim card to use for the Firestick.
Can anyone advise what MIFI I should purchase? Also what sim, I will be using it abroad later in the year so would like it to have data coverage whilst their without scandalous charges. Would be using it to watch sports / films.
I have looked at Popit which seems to get good reviews any others I should look into?

For most of these antennas you will need to drill a small hole. I recently fitted a Poynting MIMO 3 and had to drill a12mm hole to feed the cables.

How did you seal the hole? Any recommendations for a wifi unit. There is loads out there but do not want to spend thousands. Don't mind a few hundred £?

The term MiFi is being used like Hoover for vacuum cleaners and in some cases appears to cause confusion and limited choice.
MiFi is the brand name of routers owned by the Novatel company.
Our motorhome WiFi systems, whichever one we go for consist of a router and an aerial, neither of mine have anything to do with Novatel.

Have a look at this (and some of his other vlogs).Although probably more than you want to spend, worth watching.

At the cheaper end I currently have the Huawei referred to in this vlog which works well I pop it out on the roof as referred to above

Nah. 3 own the Mifi name in the UK
But good point on the use of a specific name as a general term (y)

Saw this setup on Facebook, seems a good deal if it’s still available and if you want a system for just the motorhome
( note nothing to do with me just saw it when I was looking on Facebook marketplace)

The antenna has a self adhesive foam base which should prevent water ingress. I also added Sika 522 just to make sure.

I've seen a qyite a few people remove their Status type aerial on a pole and use the existing hole to mount one of the Poynting type WiFi aerials shown above and stream TV to avoid making another hole.

The Roam system from Maxview needs a hole drilling and attaches with double sided foam and a hollow nut
The router is a badged Teltonika RUT 240
All professional gear in my opinion
I chose the black ‘shark fin’ antenna because its went on a PVC roof, not a flat roof
