Those are all phrases. ( OK , I should have made it clearer. ) I’m after single words you personally found useful eg. tomorrow, cheese, engine, footpath, hospital, aire, joking. Thanks to Duolingo I can say “ a hamburger without fish, please” but I still can’t ask about the most basic stuff.

Knowing words ain't much good, unless you also know the pronunciation thereof. My sister and I wanted to purchase some mince so I said I knew there was a butchers on the market, that's where we went but we wanted roughly a pound - but what on earth was half? (a kilo) Ah he said as I pointed to the tray of mince and to the 500g mark on his big clean white enamel Berkel weighing scales - medio kilo! Si senor, por favor!
