Do these victron thingys have to be mounted vertically? I haven’t seen one to see if there’s a heat sink on the back!
There's not a heat sink with fins - just an aluminium plate..... However the manual states:

Mount vertically on a non-flammable surface, with the power terminals facing downwards.
• For optimum performance, a minimum of 10cm space should be kept free around the product for cooling. With limited
cooling, e.g. due to insufficient ventilation, the charging current will be reduced sooner than at the specified maximum ambient
temperature. With improved airflow (e.g. forced airflow), the performance will greatly improve.
• With limited cooling or extreme ambient temperature, the charger can become hot (especially the bottom plate). Due to internal
temperature control, the bottom plate will never get warmer than 90 °C; this is no problem for the charger. Make sure that the
mounting surface can withstand this temperature.
• Mount close to the battery but never directly above the battery (to prevent damage from gassing of the battery).

Mine hasn't got very hot yet, but then the weather's been crap!

Thanks for that, my present sterling 50a non lithium setting B2B is laid flat under the passenger seat, I just wondered if I’d have to move it if I were to fit one👍

many many years! since I was a kid
I tested some chinese trip switches. A rated 60a went to 100a and got very hot before I binned it. A 30a that appeared to work as designed but kept dropping it's latch rather than tripped when I drove anywhere. Certainly wouldn't recommend them, as utter rubbish and potential fire risk. Midi and Maxi fuses are cheaper and reliable. Plus if you don't carry a spare also available everywhere easily enough

Good question. We’re planning to test that as soon as the world slows down a bit

Getting Better
Thought you were talking about your solar I didn't think the B2B could do equalisation.
If it doesn't have a Gel setting set it to 14.2v with float of 13.6v no equalisation.

You can not turn off equalisation so I have manually set the voltages, because I’m not sure what alternator I have and the gels I have set the amps to 30amp coming in and 30 going out. I’m not using the van at the moment and solar is sufficient but I’ll keep monitoring…

Up and running. Its set to 50 amp, gets around 25-30amps from the Engine.

I used 25mm Cable

Did you set the input or output or both to 50amps?

Ours will get a proper test next week when we finally get off for a week, but in the quick runs with a 16mm feed (8.5m ish - to be changed at some point) set to 40in 37out, we were getting 37 out, and 39in so expecting high 40's when cabled correctly.
