Checking tyres yesterday and in the book for my tyres it says 4.5 bar equals 65 psi on putting pressure gauge on readings of 42 to 46 psi on all six tyres (tag axle) have the tyres lost that much pressure over winter or am I totally wrong .Your comments please ps tyre size

Did you check BEFORE winter?
You can’t know what you lost if you don’t know what you had!

Set your tyres to whatever pressure you want and check them regularly.

Yes,that’s a big drop. How old are the tyres? If over five years, consider changing them. Are you using the same gauge? Temperature can make a difference, but not enough to account for 20 psi. Maybe not all the lost pressure was over winter?
No other ideas for you,but those with more knowledge than me will be along soon.

Since 2008 & many years tugging
Alloy wheel by any chance, quite common for alloys to lose pressure from corrosion on the inside of the rim where the tyre seals to it.

Absolute beginners.
If the loss is consistent on all tyres across all the axles then the gauge has to be the suspect. I've assumed you set the pressures with the same gauge at the end of last year?

and you haven't checked in 12 months ?

losing 20 psi over 12 months is quite likely

when you have tyres fitted they generally ask what pressure you want..

My tag axle is fitted with tyrepal and has only dropped 4psi approx per wheel in over 10 months, i would fit some sort of monitoring system so you can see if they are going down over a period of time

Broken most bits now
My Chinese tyrepalette has dropped from 80 to 65psi in 4 years on blingy alloys, so less than 5psi a year. I'm on Agilis so seeing how low I dare to go before putting some air in...

I had one tyre (on a steel wheel) which lost 2psi per day! Keeping it topped up was a PITA, especially when wild camping BUT I'm a little bit tight, so wouldn't pay for a repair/check/new tyre for 3 years. Sorted now.

One of the databases used thinks that my 2.7litre 316 Sprinter is a Mercedes car and recommended 33psi all round. A “better” one recognised it as a 2.2litre 311. Trust no one!
