We are about to get new tyres fitted as our present tyres are due for replacement owing to age. However our spare is only a couple of years old and unused.
The new tyres will be of a different make. My question is do tyres have to be the same on each axle as in France, or are we okay with our current spare in the Netherlands? Haven't been able to find an answer, hope a funster can assist.
John.

As in most EU countries , there is no requirement in the Netherlands to carry a spare at all , but if you do have one , classed as a "standard spare" i.e not a space saver with speed /distance limitations , the wheel /tyre assembly needs to be the same size as the other wheels on the vehicle. The tyre also needs to have the correct load rating and be of the same construction as the others, i.e no mix of radial and crossply. That's it. EU reg 458/2011... https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=celex:32011R0458#ntr3-L_2011124EN.01001301-E0013

It also says

All of the tyres normally fitted to one axle shall be of the same type.
Correct , but the clue in that section is the wording "normally" i.e general tyre fitment . Section 6 relates to spare wheel usage, and simply quotes the requirement as
"6.1.1.A standard spare unit in the same size as the tyres actually fitted to the vehicle."

Cars can have spacesavers, which presumably are allowed in the NL, so assuming for temporary use I would have thought would be OK.
