Any recommendations for USA coverage. Vodafone seem to be charging £6 a day on top of normal monthly contract.

10 day trip with 2 phones = £120

Must be cheaper to get a local sim, anyone done it?

On and off for many years.
We bought a cheap PAYG phone and SIM from Walmart. At the end of the trip I gave the phone to my friend's daughter who was delighted.

Whilst in Canada recently I found all mobile options to be very expensive and ended up relying on wifi which was almost everywhere.

Three PAYG [not monthly plans] let you roam in the USA at domestic rates

Apparently 3g signal will be switched off at the end of June

Outcome update

I ordered 2 10 day sims on line. Delivered to UK within 2 days.

Unlimited calls (local USA) and unlimited data.

Swapped sims on landing at JFK and they were live immediately.

Worked very well throughout the week, WhatsApp and messenger worked as normal on the original UK number (not sure how that works but it does, including voice calls)

Total cost £24 each, would highly recommend from simcorner.
