We are booked on Salamanca departing Portsmouth this Thursday 21st March 11.30 pm. I can see Salamanca is scheduled to arrive from Santander on Wednesday 20th. I couldn't see it doing any short trip to France and back 20th or 21st. Does anyone know if they let you on the boat early, for example at 8pm to 9pm , or will we just have to wait in the car park and board at about 10.45pm? I was going to email BF and ask but they say they might not respond to emails for 10 days!

Have never seen anyone getting on early, but we were allowed on first when on the motorbike like drowned rats. Do think thought that that was the calais to dover so not Brittany ferries.

If I thought we could get on early I’d leave home earlier as I don’t like driving the motorhome in the dark. If we can’t get on until 10.45, the I’d leave home at about 8.30pm as I don’t want to sit on the quayside for hours.

I have been using this crossing for years never seen anyone get on early ,you just park inline on the carpark and then through the passport check , queue again in the numbered lanes for an hour or more then move and queue again and then get on the boat😅.
We come back on 23rd via Bilbao (first time from Bilbao)
Enjoy your trip😎

You have no control of your boarding time but it’s highly unlikely to be early as the cleaning gang will be working.

You have far more optimism than I.
I'd ensure I was the other side of the Dartford crossing long before 5pm & wouldn't even consider starting any travel on the M25 after 8pm as that is the time they shut it in either direction anywhere for road works.

Driving from the Midlands I choose Portsmouth or even Plymouth just to avoid the M25(y)

You pay extra for priority boarding and disembarking on some crossings

If I thought we could get on early I’d leave home earlier as I don’t like driving the motorhome in the dark.
If you don't want to drive far in the dark you could travel the previous afternoon or that morning and stop over at Port Solent where there's stuff to see and restos for a bite.
If we can’t get on until 10.45, the I’d leave home at about 8.30pm as I don’t want to sit on the quayside for hours.
I just pass the time with a good book and a brew, or a nap. (y)

Are you familiar with the unpredictable M25? As gus-lopez said, and I would suggest leaving much earlier, certainly well before 20.30.

yes, I didn't think that through. 8.30 would be cutting it fine.
