Who remembers the Telex machines and the miles of paper tapes that went with them?

Yes, I worked for a busy shipbrokers in the mid 1970's.
On a Monday morning the messages came in at the rate of over 100 per hour, all in red, white and blue copies.
Each one had to go to the right desk and one for filing.

To this day I can still read telex tikka tape

When the new Puma (?) telex machines came in they had a floppy drive which meant it was far easier to type a message on one machine and then copy it to the others.

They also had a directory, so you did not have to look up each number in a book!

Started out with an Amstrad 464, followed by their 'portable' which weighed about 7Kg. After a variety of desktops/mini towers I deserted after Windows XP and for the past eight years I've been using a MacBook Pro. Certainly the most luddite-friendly of the lot.

Asked this already but no one came back ......anyone remember DW4? Display Write 4......, first word processor I used and wasn't aware of 1,2 or 3.

I wholeheartedly admit to being a dinosaur when it come to Digadots, minorpixels and anything computer and the like. Way above my wanting to learn.

I read somewhere (forget now where) that there is more computer power in a basic calculator than was in the first lunar landing module which put the first men on the moon in 1969.

Not just aimed at you, but for anyone interested in this stuff. Dustin did a great series of videos. Scott Manley did a couple and even Linus from LinuxTechTips did a couple. For the 50th anniversary a few years ago.

Wonder how big the Facebook server is, anybody know? It's probably on a micro sd card somewhere in America

They operate many, many data centres. Each crammed with 19" rack mount gear, each with 100's of servers in them.

Given the hassle with my printer with Big Sur, not a chance. Do I need it? Probably not.
