Passport with 10 years plus (2 Viewers)

Hello all. We are planning to travel to Germany in late July/August. Phil’s passport expires in early September so he has applied for a renewal as we know he will need 3 months left on our planned return date. We have not got the new passport yet but I am concerned the UK passport may be issued with 10 years plus the months remaining on his old passport. If this is the case, does this mean we will not be allowed entry to the EU?

No it will be 10 years only. They no longer carry over any left over months they are now lost and new passport will end 10 years from date of issue.

Carrying over remaining months was a UK oddity no longer tolerated by our continental cousins

No. 10 years only. Just done mine and MrsB’s. Old ones would have ended in February 25, but we are away in October and wanted to get both sorted now. I did it on line through the Gov app. Really easy and got them both back in 7 days

Was looking at ours and they expire may 26 but we're issued in August 15 so will have to renew next summer.

It wouldn't matter if they did.

As said above, the UK no longer add the extra on, but it only matters when you approach the 10 years, before that it is still accepted.

Our new Passports were returned in about six days. Renewal on line using a photo code from a supermarket booth. By chance we beat the £6 rise in price by one day!

Our old passports were due to run out in May 2024. We knew we were going to France in March and April so we decided to renew them in January in order to ensure they were accepted. Did it at the post office, it costs a bit more but is guaranteed that the Passport Office get them. We had a confirmation of receipt email within minutes of the Post Office making the applications and we were surprised how quickly they came back, 6 days after going to the post office. They are dated 10 January 2024 and run out 9 January 2034.

Received my replacement passport yesterday.
It took less than 1 week and included a bank holiday.
The old one was valid until April 25 but would have been 10 years old in August 24.
Thought I would get in early, expecting a delay.
The new one is valid for 10 years
