I need a replacement gear cable set for my 2001 2.8Hdi Peugeot Boxer, mine snapped at gearbox rod end. Coastal Motorhomes cannot supply, they say I may have to get one made up by Speedy Cables.
It is on the 320MWB chassis, also known as the model 230L, I need it for a RH drive cable clutch van. No luck on Internet. Many sellers have the model 244 cable do not know if it would fit. Perhaps someone has the part number. Van currently being recovered from Scotland to Southampton so cannot remove as pattern. I am having a prostate op on the 22nd April so need to sort before then as will be on light duties for six weeks. Due to the possible long supply time I am having the van delivered to my home where I hope to sort it.
Thanks in advance

Can't help but pleased to hear you're home safely, and best wishes for the op and a speedy recovery (y)

I do not know all the differences of 230 and 244 models, I believe the 244 was a stopgap facelift model before the very different 250. I do know the 2.8Hdi was not fitted for long. Then there is the gearbox differences, our one is 5 speed with reverse across to the right and down and with a cable operated clutch, do not know the gearbox type. This all suggests that the type of cable set I need was not made for long, hence the difficulty in getting one.

Intriqued by this post... We hear a lot on here about the failure of Boxer/Ducato/Relay vans clutch cables...
Seems to be a common fault, so why do they seem to be relatively hard to source??

Not the clutch cable. The gearchange is operated by two push - pull cables which come as a set. The cable that is moved when you push the gearlever from left to right is called the 'selector cable', the other being the 'gearchange cable'. Our selectir cable has snapped.

OK sorry but still this issue still reported many time on here...so question remains.. why so hard to source??
It's not as though these can vans are not everywhere on our roads, and if Funsters having issues with them.. then can only assume the 1000's upon 1000's of "white van men" is too.

I think it's probably relatively rare for these selector cables to fail, I don't recall reading about it and can't think of another case that's been mentioned on here ?

Sorry, the 'Scotland recovery' and the 'Need cable' were both posted by me about the same cable.

The other link refers to a LH drive van.

Yes I know .. I was just highlighting to Figaro that this issue with cables, whether LHD or RHD has been highlighted and reported on Fun Forum in the past and has caused issues to Funsters with the apparent difficulty in sourcing said cables..
Quick search and I found 2... how many more??

That is for a model with hydraulic clutch operation not the type that 68c has which , I believe , has a cable operated clutch , indicating a different gearbox type needing different control cables.
I thought all Ducatos/Boxers had hydraulic clutches? Just noticed He says for cable operated in the heading.......my mistake.

Snows Peugeot of Romsey have chased around and found part numbers for me although an obsolete part and unobtainable.

Gear change cable 2444V4 (fore aft movement)
Gear selector cable 2444v5 (left to right movement).
I need the selector cable.

Found 'v4 in EU but at €248 and then website does not work. No 'v5 yet, still searching.

Thanks for all the help funsters, the recovery company say I should get the van Thursday 11th pm. Probably best now to wait and get the old cable off so I know exactly what I need.

As my van is an A Class with the Alko chassis not much of it really Peugeot. Probably just the front section with no doors or winscreen etc.

I think they meant that very few vans of that age are still being used, apart from motorhomes which tend to have a much longer lifespan than commercial vehicles.

Update in case anyone else follows this in the future with the same problem.

Van arrived home so I removed the cable. Had to remove them both as an assembly as they go through a sort of double rubber flange/grommet that you can't get off.
Found part numbers on the cables, which are listed on the Internet, but no stock.

Gear cable 1329697080 (Fiat 2444V4)
Selector cable 1329698080 (2444V5)

Turned out it is had not snapped, the rod section of the cable had pulled out of the diecast cup bearing due to age and corrosion. I cleaned up the rod, which has a series of ridges bit like a thread, and the end fitting. Pushed the rod back in with araldite then re-swaged it using the tool I use for battery cables. Refitted and working OK at the moment. Feel I have got off lightly. I may try and find a used part slow time and get a replacement made up.
