So poppylll set off 1362 miles ago with a full tank of adblue. Topped it up before we set off.
Along with Diesel. We are about to set off on our exploration and just filled her up with Diesel and Adblue. (Spanish Diesel n Adblue)

So it took 7,64 litres of Adblue, to fill the tank.. 1362 miles divided by 7.64 = 178.272251 miles per litre. I don’t know if this is good or bad? I’ve looked it up but nothing confirms what I should be getting..

also 218 litres of Diesel was used as well thats, 6.248 miles per litre so 4.546 litres per gallon = 28.40 miles per gallon… that sounds good in fact it doesn’t sound right, I expected about 20-22 mpg. I checked all my purchases and I have included them all.. in Spain Diesel is 1.34 Euros per litre, in France it was 1.76 off motorway at Le Clerk or at Carrefours self service. Ok it’s new but again is this what is expected....

I filled up the Adblue tank when I bought the motorhome new 2years ago. Since then it's done 5000 miles and the gauge is still showing its 2/3 full.
I am beginning to think that it's either the gauge is faulty or its not using enough.

I get about 5500 miles between fill ups. When the light comes on the dash I refill. Takes 10 litres.
So say, 500 miles per litre.
That’s the Peugeot 2.0 160 hp engine with the van at 3850kg.

I did a rough estimate last week and think I’m around 215 miles per litre.

Mine must have a big thirst or a leak.

I’m lucky to get over 150 miles per litre. (2021 Ducato).

Our 2022 Ducati based PVC is our first requiring adblue. I've recorded every top up and we are averaging just under 280 miles per litre for our first 10,000 miles.

I’ve topped mine up 3 times. First gave 253’/L the next two were surprisingly the same at 331’/L

Was told by the tech at our recent engine service the rate of adblue consumption is variable and linked to what work the engine actually does. As we all know we have different driving styles and vehicle weights along with whatever software version our engine management system is using. His advice was to simply wait for the 1000 mile warning and then fill it up! He suggested my previous guesstimate of next likely fill up time may also change as we had two different software updates loaded.

As Scotsblood post above ad blue usage is very dependent on how hard engine is having to work , more use going up hill, hard acceleration , labouring engine in high gear . more weight, headwind etc so not really possible to estimate refill intervals accurately

I’m told in order to keep the Euro 6 label, adblue has to be used, however the engine can be reprogrammed and the adblue switched off. But the engine would then be non-compliant and illegal in Europe if Euro 6 was claimed.
How true this is I don’t know.
But the engineer who told me said I would get more miles per gallon, probably up to 6 mpg, and would not need to buy any adblue.
The exhaust emissions would be a lot higher at speed 50 mph and above. So not a green route. 8 won’t consider it as I don’t know enough about it..

I think the 6 mpg is complete fiction. How would injecting a urea mixture into the exhaust make any difference to how much fuel is being injected at the top end of the engine.

I don’t know enough about it to defend or oppose this suggestion, but the engineer was telling me that Adblue causes a buffer in the exhaust that assists in the reduction of noxious gasses, this buffer is similar to having a restricted airflow affect which actually increases fuel consumption. Any restriction in an exhausts airflow does have an effect in fuel consumption but how true all this is, is beyond my knowledge. As I said I can’t defend or oppose something I know nothing about. I don’t even know if a engine can be remapped this way..

Actually it does say on the internet that adblue removal in the UK is illegal so I don’t recommend it.

I don’t know enough either but I have looked for authoritative articles from people who do and so far have not found any that support your engineer’s claim. I found the most convincing articles were the ones that said there was no compelling evidence to support mpg claims either way, because the addition of AdBlue was always accompanied by other changes to the engines.

There is at least one well reasoned fleet article claiming that AdBlue improves mpg because the alternative enhanced EGR systems are known to introduce inefficiencies into the combustion process. If like me you accept that reducing poisonous nitrous oxide in exhaust gases is important then AdBlue seems to be the best way to do it. It looks like the engine manufacturers also think this because they all seem to be moving away from enhanced EGR systems to AdBlue. The mpg figures are always important to manufacturers, particularly in the fleet market, so I don’t think they would have settled on AdBlue if it caused a dramatic drop in mpg.
