We’ve a vibration coming up through the van but can’t decide what/where it’s coming from so after some thoughts please.

Few things to note:
New discs/pads all round was before fitting the new discs so no fault with thos.
Wheel balancing checked and new track rod ends fitted.

Can’t see or feel any play in prop shaft bearings
At the moment it comes in at about 30mph and fades out around 35mph and then again around 55mph BUT another time it’ll come in at around 40 and 60mph
Seems not to be coming from the engine, feels lower/further back.
Seems to come on as accelerating/under load, not when powering off or when the clutch is down.
it is a high mileage van, ex DPD, 220miles
Had it for 4 years and this has started over last couple of months, only use it couple of times a month.

Trying to not have to keep replacing expensive parts to try to see if it stops it and after some ideas please

Could it be the prop shaft or gearbox/clutch back axel?

Thanks for reading

Agree prop. Remove and send to prop specialist such as Bailey Morris. They will test, refurb, including rebalance it.

Ex DPD.......thrashed and poorly maintained, if there is a corner to cut, then its cut!!
I'd check all running gear, especially mounts.

Definitely the propshaft lol. Literally fell apart when taking apart to swap for a new one.
The removed one had been on from new, 2012 and over 200000 miles so hasn’t done to bad.

Great service from a local engineering company, Driveline of Morcambe, I collected but they do next day delivery as well, we’ll packaged and looks a well made replacement.

Just to change the oil this afternoon and then a test run so keeping fingers crossed all goes ok. If there’s no vibration I’ve given myself permission to drop by Tesco and get a bottle of spiced rum……

Yes centre support fall apart. Transits used to nearly be a service item.

I would have thought that you would only have needed the carrier bearing. Hardy spicer looks okay

What does seem strange and also the guy at the engineering place said was strange that they very rarely get any crafter propshaft request whereas sprinters are one of their most popular requests.

All went well with the test run so to Tesco I did go and couple of rum and cokes later I’m a happy chappy.
Expensive day in all, £395 for the propshaft, nearly £100 for oil and filter and not forgetting the £17 for the rum.

Shawn.
If you drink enough of the £17 rum you will forget the £495 extra that you spent.;)

Glad you got it all sorted.(y)

check inner and outer walls of tyres for damage or egging ,check wheel bearings, shrouds on shock absorbers, i think if it was a hardy spicer joint it would clunk rather than vibrate,or maybe it could be a balance issue with the prop/clutch which would carry down the prop, and be felt at the rear, maybe something like half shaft carrier bearing (most likely) let us all know how you get on, sprinters are solid it should be a simple fix
