Le Shuttle Coquelles Duty Free now closed (1 Viewer)

Came back via Le Shuttle yesterday.

We usually pop into duty free to get some whisky on the way back as they usually sell it at a good price but for some unbeknown reason the shop has now closed completely, shutters down and just finishing off clearing out all the stock. They say that only the duty free shop on the other side at Folkestone is staying open for business but no use if you want something on the way back.

Luckily we stocked up with wine at a supermarket before we crossed as usual.

Duty Free, closed and Cite De Europe not much fun these days.

Not surprised. When we were in there in February this year the only items that were cheaper than UK was some of the white spirits. Malt whisky, very expensive and no Armagnac/Calvados/Pastis at all! Even the ubiquitous large Toblerone wasn't that cheap, but we did buy some...

Seems daft to close the Coquelles one and keep the Folkestone one open, you would think more would buy on the way back in to UK rather than before crossing to France but they must have their reasons. Nothing on their website about it.

We were there 2 weeks ago and the shelves were empty, so we asked and the cashier said that it was due to a new company taking over the duty free concession. Apparently all the staff were being kept on, everything the same, just a different uniform he told us.
