Novice question coming. Looking to buy a motorhome next year. Still weighing up A class or coachbuilt. If we go for a coachbuilt is there any pros and cons to the mk2 or mk3 on a Fiat? There's a big difference in price so wondered if we'd be better pushing for mk3.

Not to technical please because I'm not mechanical minded. I know some parts cambelt, suspension etc

Thanks in advance.

I think you might be referring to the X244 platform as Mk 2 and the X250 as Mk3, if this is the case the X250 is a substantial improvement over the X244.
Both are good platforms IMO but the X250 with the 3 litre engine is very useful.

This an X250

I don't know what years they are because there are face-lifts as well. I searched on the Web and mk1, 2, 3 is on Google. W

Thank you. This was the sort of thing I needed. I will google the reviews on x250 etc

I have an 20 year old X244. Old school run forever diesel which isn't bristling with electronic sensors waiting to go wrong, put in limp mode and cost me a fortune.
Very happy with it for now (y)
Interesting point thank you. I guest there's less electrical/computerised bits to go wrong so less to fix.

Can I ask why you prefer the 250?
Yes no problem. My MH on the X250 platform is a 3 litre my X244 was a 2.8 litre, the 3 litre engine is matched to a 6 speed gearbox and the combination is very well matched to a 3.5 to 4 tonne motorhome. The engine is smooth and the gear ratios are nicely spaced. For example if you are going up a steep hill and you change up gear then the next gear is fairly close to the last and the engine has plenty of grunt to pull the new gear.

I would say that the X250 handles slightly better and is quieter than the X244.

My X244 was a Hymer B644 and the X250 is a Niesmann Bischoff Arto so similar weights and build quality.
