Hi all, currently being quoted between £1063 and £1670 for cam belt and water pump replacement on Knaus Sun Ti. Seems a tad high as I was expecting something around the £5-600 mark.

Anyone have any recommendations in the East Midlands area, specifically Nottingham, please.

If it's an A Class that seems about the going rate (though nearer the £1k mark than the highe figure).

If it is a C class which is basically the van cab then that is sky high.

My quote was for £850 from a garage in the wigan area. Is that a Welsh Terrier?

Why? A Class takes the same time most of the work is done from underneath.

Our local Fiat professional charge £850 for the cambelt (10% discount for Funsters) not recommended to change the water pump on a Ducato.
But the Genuine Fiat Cambelt Kit comes with a water pump. Any idea why?

Yes. thats a recent addition due to the number of pumps sold with a kit. the standard kit without pump should still be available. Pherhaps seen as a way of selling more for less. The advice for ducatos has always been don't change pump unless leaking, they are generally good for over 300,000 miles.

Are you sure? The water pump is quite a big thing and as Lenny HB says is not normally changed.

As previous post a guess you can get a kit with or without.
I would have thought that the kit without would be more than half the price of the kit with.

The water pump is a significant thing. Designed to last the life of the vehicle.

More a case of they throw in a cam belt with the water pump than the other way round maybe?

i was always under the impression that the X250's recommended that the water pump be changed when the cam belt is done. Also, that when the x290 came out then the advice changed to water pump change only when required on the later engines.

can someone show me where the official FIAT advice; Not a personal view point or a reasonend argument , but the official FIAT guidance for an X250 is not to change the water pump please. i most certainly cannot locate that guidance.

I've just noticed this thread :Eeek: :drinks:

My local garage in Rotherham charged me £100 labour and £98 for the belt kit yesterday.
He said he never bothers with the water pump on the 2.3 because it's behind something else and a pig to get off --- and because he has never heard of one fail.
It is registered 2019 but it left the factory in 2018 so six years old now but only 29,000 miles.
MOT was a further £40 and passed but they did replace the wipers.

Thanks all for your help and advice. Finally got it booked in with Camper Uk Lincoln for a set fee so £799. Includes genuine Fiat parts and water pump. They have stated that they have it in writing from Fiat that they have to change the pump at the same time.

Our local Fiat Professional charged me a lot more than that but they didn't really want to do it as they were too busy.

I changed the timing belt and water pump on my ducato myself when I purchased the Motorhome from a private seller for my own peace of mind the van was 2017 year with 16000 miles
It was not a very difficult job I just took my time but removing the water pump was the hardest part as the Diesel injection pump pulley had to be removed and was well and truly stuck on I closely examined the water pump and compared it with the new pump and decided that it was not worth changing as the old one was in excellent condition I would however recommend replacing the antifreeze along with a coolant flush as I believe this will help to protect the water pump also
When the next timing belt is due I will not replace the water pump
Total cost for the parts all genuine Fiat was less than £350
