This may seem a strange question from someone who has had a MH for 14 years, but I have a 11kg Gaslow refillable cylinder and had a Calor as back-up. Do all European exchange cylinders have a 21.8 LH outlet thread?

The Calor has gone and although I have thought of adding a second refillable cylinder I think it might just be easier to buy an exchange cylinder, for two reasons: we have a 37Mb regulator which screws directly onto the 21.8 LH outlet, and secondly have never had to revert to the reserve cylinder, so if necessary in future it would be easy just to screw the regulator onto the reserve.

The big French cylinders (can't remember the size but about 13kgs) have a LHT 21.8 exit point.
If you can get hold of one, a Repsol Butane and/or Propane have a similar exit from their 'Jumbo' adaptor. (you don't need a Reg. You already have one on the Baulkhead.)

Your Gaslow has the same outlet as German/Belgium and fairly certain Polish cylinders. Gaslow cylinders are made in Poland.

Thanks but not really.

Are you saying that from various suppliers of exchange cylinders their outlet valves could require any one of these adaptors?
I believe a be number of countries has a different connection to their refillable bottles.
But I don’t know the exact details

It appears others have a better idea above

My regulator screws directly onto the cylinder, as per my OP.

Lenny seems to have answered my question that exchange cylinders have the same 21.8LH outlet as I have now.

[EDIT - Emmit answered also while I was typing]

Next question is what are the prices in France and Germany, and where does one buy a new 11kg cylinder - I presume the supermarkets and filling stations only do exchange, not new. Are they sold full or empty?

France mainly uses 21.8 LH thread. I get mine from Intermarche and Netto. Around €23 for 10kg exchange. They are 1€ to buy! Propane or Butane.
The 13kg (Blue, Butagaz) are most garages and also 21.8 LH thread
Now many places have gone over to pay at the pump the gas distribution is 24 hr machines. Cages to place empties and collect full ones.

As said by Larby, the purchase/rental of bottles in France is so small as to be of no concern.

Can you imagine that occuring in the good old UK?

No. I didn't think so.

Hello Nicholson. I have two French gas bottles free to a good home. I’m 2mins away from Drumbridge roundabout A38 expressway 12 miles from Exeter.Rob.

Does this help?

That kit would really only suit a German van or someone who has a G12 KLF pigtail .
The connection might look similar and be the same 21.8lh but the British Butane G8 pigtail is not compatible.

So have I got this correct - I can buy a cylinder for €1 (presumably empty, which I can exchange for about €30 for a full one?
