After a complete Dometic RMD 8555 fridge/freezer failure can anybody recommend a good Service Engineer/Workshop who can deal with this. The complete failure was that nothing would select on the 3 way. The control panel LED was not decipherable and the panel to the side of it got very warm. The appliance would not switch off using the selector button. We are in the Staffs/Cheshire area. Spinneys Knutsford, last October when the 12volt wouldn't disconnect, just pulled a wire on the relay and said a new one is £3,500!!!? One reason or another we have not been able to use the MH after that until last weekend at Moreton in Marsh on EHU. Result as fault and no fridge.

The Dometic website can direct to the nearest engineer but if it can’t be repaired, as the RMD8555 is no longer available, the new replacement is this, not £3500.

Reading on forum that these are not performing well as regards the Freezer. Freezer temp is only reaching -8/-12C. They are experimenting with putting baffles over part of the fins in the Fridge to make it work harder. Thetford equivalent at a £1000 cheaper seems to be a better choice with good temp figures.

The main fridge/freezer will be fine. The problem is normally condensation from around the freezer door dripping onto the secondary PCB between the fridge and freezer where the LCD is located. Drying it out often does the trick but you'll need to remove it which is not so difficult. The frame heater was introduced to help with the problem but it has to be in EHU to work so is often forgotten about.

Can you hear the gas burner light when on gas setting?

I thought it was the 10 series compressor that was having the issues, we have the 3 way and it's fine

I stripped all the 3 way crap off mine and fitted a compressor kit, relatively easy to do and only about £300 (394 now) plus commercial electronic controller. Works great and I haven't bought any LPG since

No sorry.. frame heater 12v 3.5w....
Does not require EHU...

Hi - it was working fine, we left it on the drive plugged in and cam out last week to check it over and found it not working
Lights were on but not cold or frozen
