The limit in Austria is 3500kg for the car vignette, over that you need a Go box which prices per kilometer, which is way more expensive ( for me it would be 900+ € per year intstead of 95€), so giving me more than 3500kg is fine but it would take me over the weight limit for the tolls, so not viable unless they increase that too...
Hope that makes sense....

The limit in Austria is 3500kg for the car vignette, over that you need a Go box which prices per kilometer, which is way more expensive ( for me it would be 900+ € per year intstead of 95€), so giving me more than 3500kg is fine but it would take me over the weight limit for the tolls, so not viable unless they increase that too...

I think it is more to do with the C1 regulations/licence than about tolls. Anyone who is currently C1 and has a vehicle over 3500kg pays the tools where required.

For me thats the catch, if they upgrade the weight that you can drive on a non-C1 then they need to upgrade the toll weight limit or make and exemption for EV's and MHs, the extra payload would be useful but not at the expense of going up into a different and much more expensive toll class.

I expect that over time the companies/countries that have toll roads may come into line, but don't hold your breath!

Austria, different payment systems for weight, pay for a car vignette (3500) and get stopped and found to be over weight = deep shit....over 3500kg requires a Go box and pay per km and that is expensive.

You may never get stopped but if you do then it could be pricey....

The answer may be to avoid Austria but I can't, it's 20km away and going round is not possible.....

That would work well for tourism especially if possibly the largest motorhome forum has debates on the legalities! I suspect that we would soon align ourselves with Europe, but who really knows?

Good point , aligning anything with the EU would not be the first choice, so catching johnny foreigner for breaking the law would be my guess.

We too never use the toll roads in Austria.

Austria is stunning and well worth touring, which we do, but if we want another destination, which we often do, then its a quick pass through on the autobahn.
Be careful that you don´t get caught out and re-directed onto the autobahn, they do this on bank hols (or equiv), not having a vignette or box is then a problem for you, not the fairest solution but that's the way it is.......

If there EU driving license allows them to drive a vehicle up to xxKgs, then they are perfectly legal.

Driving license categories were harmonised years ago, but if EU raises cat B to 4000kg MoHo that EU license is valid in this country (but with EU weight limits).

It is a pity that the article quoted in the OP written by IBEX insurance did not quote what the EU Parliament actually passed. The article is about as useless as 'the man down the pub told me'.

How this thread drifted from what tolls were charged on vehicles using the road to what licence the driver has, is a mystery to me. Who has ever been asked to show a licence at a toll booth? Or when buying a carnet etc.

If your m/home has a car vignette now I don't see how it will change unless you intend to upgrade your m/home to 3500+ in which case you would have had to pay it anyway.
