Converted Volvo coac
I was looking at a coach for conversion and the 1st looked at was still registered as 50 seat coach.
Well I've now found one partly converted and it's already been registered as PLG that I think is around 300 quid a year to tax.
Is this the best and cheapest way to have a coach registered?

Get it re-classified correctly as PHGV and it’s £165 per annum.
And someone said on here recently that the £165 rate hasn't increased in about twenty years.

Make sure you have a C1 or C qualification on your license or you won't be able to drive it registered as PHGV, I don't know how they've registered it as PLG as I would think a 50 seat coach would be over 3.5 tonnes even with all the seats removed.

My guess is this will be well over 7.5T
My optare metrorider came as default with 8.4T and I had to get it downgraded to drive on my C1.

Most definitely over 3.5

Be aware that despite re registering as PHGV or as wrongly PLGV the coach can never be reregistered as a motorhome on the V5. DVLA have taken a very strong stance on converted vehicles for the last few years and made it really really difficult

Thanks for the information. I will be happy leaving it PHGV if I can change. Body type is blank of the v5 at moment. Is it worth trying to change that to something?

By the way. What would the advantages of having v5 as motorhome?

I'll be very happy with PHGV and 165 quid toad tax.

As a motorhome some tolls will be a lot cheaper and some insurers won't touch home conversions. As HGV as you know, speeds are greatly reduced. You can ask DVLA if the body type is blank, but I doubt you will get much sense from them. The people on the phones are scripted and very few specialists in house now. Downrating the MGW will take an engineers report and even then they regularly screw up the data entry or point blank refuse. This is the main reason I stopped converting my own vans
