I have never understood why MHomers want 'food grade' hose for just filling the water tank, because the water is not in contact with the hose for long, unlike say beer in a pub pipe overnight.

Discuss.

Nor do I. For continuous use the blue hose will not leach plasticisers into the water and an opaque cover (as opposed to braided clear or tinted) will inhibit algae growth etc. I use a yellow cover hose and drain after each use as I re-coil it. Blue’s ok though!

Agree, Over the years I have embarked millions of litres of freshwater into ships tanks using "fire hoses" the only difference between the fire hoses was we marked those used for freshwater to keep them separate from those used for firefighting (saltwater) systems.

I needed the cristal hose for a new install which is in the double skin floor going to pump /water heater /shower etc and coming from outside underslung tanks.
I do use ordinary hose for filling and drain it each time i use it . also change it every 2 yrs because i can

Food grade hose just means it doesn't leach chemicals into the water. A typical water filter will do nothing to eliminate these chemicals.
