Motorhoming since 2015......
Walking home from town with one of our dogs this afternoon, along the Old Railway Walk near our house, I stopped to listen to the birds…..
I heard a Chaffinch, Wren, Chiffchaff, Great Tit, Willow Warbler, Blackbird, Robin, Tree Sparrow, Starling and Crow…..
…..and then Tasha barking because she wanted her tea! ;)

We hear many birds but find it hard to I.D them, except robins and Wrens !
Install the free Merlin app from Cornell. It is brilliant at identifying birds by their call. It does take up a bit of space but if you have room install the European pack as that includes the UK.

Screenshot from a walk earlier this year.

Listening to Birdsong is one of the pleasures of life, l love nothing more that walking out at 5.30am in the spring and simply listening to such wonderful sounds without the interference of humans, l actually believe the birds recognise you as they move about in hedgerows and so on it’s almost like a greeting.

Hopefully i will get some advice.
I used to feed the birds.
However as we travel about for extended periods 6/12 weeks, i cannot replenished the food.
So I don’t feed.
Which i like to do.

I'm with you there, with the little birds I often manage to learn one then lose it again.
I'm better with the big birds we have around here. Ravens are easy, chatty with unique wing noise; snipe call & drumming; lapwing 'ocarina' calls; hooded crows trying to appease the rock doves, and knocking on the windows; buzzard mewing like a cat; white tailed eagles sounding more like a spoiled puppy, cuckoo etc. Can't differentiate the owls though.
Probably helps that the big birds don't come mob-handed in mixed flocks so it's easier to identify who's saying what 🦅

eight years in theory, a newby in practice!!!
Many moons ago when I was a baker I was out and about, walking 2 miles to work at 4.15am the 'Dawn Chorus' used to put a spring in my step and set me up for the day. Just loved it (y)

The last few days I have problems with a flock of crows raiding the bird feeders. I didn't mind them picking up the seeds that dropped on the grass, in fact I had started sprinkling chopped nuts and seeds on the grass for the pheasants. Big mistake I think as it has attracted the crows. As soon as I chase the crows away dozens of tiny birds fly up from the long grass on the field to get to the feeders which annoys me as that indicates they are afraid of the crows.

We get Herring Gulls on our bird feeder APIA.

I am curious as to what the birds are who start tweeting as dusk falls. I never hear them during the day:unsure:

Do you have a nice neighbour or family member who can replenish the food for you. I know that when you start to feed them they rely on you and you can't stop.

We used to feed the rats when we had chickens 😭
We had a doves in our dovecote and we kept finding them butchered and I thought it was the rats but it was a sparrowhawk, it took them all out. I loved my doves they used to land on my car when I got home from work and fly around my head whenever they saw me. My mum had blonde hair too and they used to flap around her head and she hated it :giggle:

In the comming months we will start to get nightingales arriving, slowly more and more arrive and after several days of tuning up they start singing their wonderful song, apparently they only do this until they get a mate, this is fine and normally goes on for about a month or so, unfortunately we always seem to get an ugly one that decides to set up camp just outside a bedroom window, after day and night singing for several weeks keeping you awake unless you close the windows, you start to look through the shotgun catalogues 🦤🦤🦤🔫🔫😁😁😁

We had rats nesting around our feeders then the field was flooded by heavy rain and they have gone(y)
