I occasionally print from my phone so it's linked to the printer
Today I received an email from Amazon telling me the black ink is running out and would I like to buy more.
I suppose I should be grateful it was only ink, if they say the same about toilet paper I will worry about how they know

I use HP Instant Ink for my wireless printer. HP send out fresh cartridges when they see I need them.

my printer stops printing in black and we carry on using it in color till one of us gives in and buys a black cartridge ,usually me

I think this is the first time I have had to buy ink, when I was working I had to print stuff every day so the company paid for the ink, they paid for the printer as well. Since retiring I don't print much stuff, and I always kept a spare set of cartridges so this is the first time I've had to pay

The only person that prints in our house is my wife and it drives me crazy. She will bring up a recipe on her iPad and then print it out instead of just looking at it on her iPad. AAGGHH!

I do that too. All recipes are in a ring binder, I can browse and would rather not have my tablet in the kitchen, I know I would spill something on it! My printer only prints in black and the cartridges last about 18 months, don't need colour for recipes and song lyrics

I also print recipes and keep them in a book, I use Alexa to make a shopping list and sometimes print that as well

Wouldn't that mean having my tablet on my worktop in my tiny kitchen ? Also printed on A4 propped up I can see the whole recipe, no scrolling! And in large print

Me too, so much better reading the printed word than a screen which is why I prefer a book to the kindle but, yes, I see your point!
