Reading through lorger post re his trip.
Why do we persist with Bank Holidays?
It must be better for most to have the days as part of their annual leave.
It just seems a very outdated concept

The reason we included it in ours was because we normally go to mainland Europe, due to our wee dog have dementia and my dad who normally has him being 83 we didn’t want to leave him and didn’t want to put him through the hassle of the foreign travel. Our daughter did offer to watch him but until last Monday she was doing her dissertation for her masters and we didn’t want her to be disturbed as Toby can be needy at times, won’t need to worry about bank holidays going forward as this should hopefully be our last one as both taking early retirement soon.

VW T6 & tents.
Many continental countries have more public holidays than we do in the UK, but often theirs are on specific dates and if those dates fall at a weekend then they lose the holiday - there is usually no rolling over.
So while other countries typically have 10-14 days, instead of 8 in the England & Wales (9 in Scotland), they will lose approx 2-4 every year.

All the gear, and no idea!
It’s the only good thing about still working for a living, being paid a day for being away from work👌🏼👌🏼

I just think it would be more useful added onto leave entitlement.
First world problem anyway.

A Woosh bang
It must be better for most to have the days as part of their annual leave.
They can, and are, that is how my wife's holidays are calculated, she does not get 'bank holidays ' they are just normal working days ..

Entitlement

Almost all people classed as workers are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday a year (known as statutory leave entitlement or annual leave).
This includes:
  • agency workers
  • workers with ‘irregular hours’ (where the number of hours they work in a pay period often or always changes)
  • ‘part-year’ workers (where there are periods of at least a week in a leave year where they do not need to work and are not paid)
An employer can include bank holidays as part of statutory annual leave.
